Final from Raceland.

Greenup played just well enough to win this early District match up. Dakota Greenslate pitched 2 2/3 innings but came out due to a pitch count restriction from the GC bench. LT Rice came in to finish the inning on one pitch on a come back bunt attempt from Bobby McKee. Rice sent down the first 10 men he faced before Raceland rallied for 3 runs off him. Billy Logan and Eric Craft led the GC offense with timely hitting. Raceland was sparked by John Scott Carver's first home run of the season leading off the bottom of the first. Jeremy Barr had a 2 run double in the bottom of the 7th but was left stranded on a game ending ground out. John Scott Carver had 2 hits, two runs scored and 2 RBI for Raceland. Raceland's next game will be at Rose Hill Thursday March 26 (Central Park).

Raceland could have won this game some costly errors hurt. This is not to take anything away from Greenup we know they are a good team but Raceland could have won this game. Raceland is 0-2 and could just as easily be 2-0 the rams are ahead of last year.With some hard work and improvement which should come as the season goes on I think we can hold our own with anybody.Boys just keep your head up and work hard I think you all will have a good season ahead of you.

Stupied question but you know me I just have to ask. Please give me the reasons of bunting on a two out situation. It has always bugged me so I am just curious are more for this situation or against.

Hoof is a great man and motivator, but his coaching decisions will make you scratch your head and say uh!! Raceland also bunted a runner from 2nd to third in the 7th inning while down 6-2. Why? The runner is in scoring position, this bunt just gives one of your outs away.

Wasn't at the game, sometimes those decisions are made based on the hitter. If they have a hard time making contact, putting the ball in play is better than not hitting at all. :thumb:

What makes you think they are ahead of last year? Just wondering.

I think they are playing well together. I don't think many teams in the area will give up only 1 run and 3 hits to a very young and offensive minded Boyd County team. Last year, it took them several weeks to play together as well as they are to start the season. Jmo.

I think the pitching for the Rams was good enough to win both games. That was the big question mark to start the season. The Rams just are not hitting the ball and making the plays they should make, but it just the first week lets hope they make them in May.

I agree with the two previous posts. I believe the boys are playing better together early in the season compared to last year. Also I think the pitching was good enough to win both ballgames. I am not trying to take anything away from Boyd or Greenup. They have got to be the favorites in the 16th region and we had a chance to win both games. If the Rams win both games then they are the talk of the town. With some hard work I believe they have a good chance come District time and maybe even region. We just got to work hard to get better on defense. This is not a knock on anybody we just got some boys playing in a different position defensively than last year. They just got to get comfortable playing their new positions and playing them together. I believe this will happen as the season goes along. This Ram team has a chance to be better than people thought. Jmo :dancingpa

This was a great game. Raceland made a nice comeback in the bottom of the 7th but fell just short.

 

The Musketeers need to thank Craft and Logan for this win. They were the only two players on the team who hit the ball this game. Actually, they're the only two who have hit the ball so far this year, including pre-season. Yes, we've had sporadic hits here and there, but these are the only two who have hit consistantly. Reed, Peveto and Rice are gonna have to step it up at the plate. Staten has been injured, so I think he just needs some time. Of course, it's still early so they all probably need a little time.

 

I don't want to leave out the defense in this one. Greenslate has been injured, so he was only able to go just under 3 innings. He didn't have his best stuff, but that's to be expected. He threw fairly well considering he hasn't had much mound time yet, even in practice. Rice had some great defense behind him along with making a couple of good plays himself. The loss of Zach James is going to mean Rice is also going to have to step it up on the mound.

 

Great game Raceland and congratulations to the Muskies for the victory.

As for Raceland, it seems to me that they can be a very good baseball team by tournament time. Very close losses to Boyd and GC tell me that they (Raceland) have a pretty decent baseball team. I don't believe in moral victories at all, never have and never will. A close loss is just that.....a loss. Hopefully Raceland will get to where they will win the close games and not just come up short.
