  1. I don't think one school in the second region has been in session this week. I am located in Madisonville and Hopkins County has been out all week along with Union and Henderson County. We received 5 inches of snow but we had quarter inch ice on top of it and side roads and back roads are a mess. Our biggest problem is all schools around here have not been able to clear off parking lots. Ice on bottom and on top. Temps around 10-15 degrees today are making most games for this coming weekend to be cancelled. It has been safer to not have any activities at the schools. Several coaches that I have talked to have not even been allowed to practice. Its been a mess.
  2. Agree. And of course, that's assuming they win their region. Looking forward to it already!
  3. You have to remember; somebody in that first round can easily get upset. You never know how a team will respond to that atmosphere.
  4. I watched a game tonight that was a very close game. Even went into overtime; there was more than one possession where each team ran their offense and didn't get the shot they wanted. The play didn't produce a good look. Both teams backed it back out and ran another play until they got the shot they wanted. They didn't force a bad shot. The shot clock produces bad shots. Yes execution is what you want but everybody knows that if you want a good shot, make the other team play defense. Make them move and guard someone. A shot clock in high school is a bad idea; period.
  5. Final of the All-A Second region tournament. Caldwell goes 16-35 at the Free throw line while UHA goes 23-40. An ugly ball game that had 5 technical fouls called. Awesome crowd in the smallest gym (Dawson Springs) in the region. Atmosphere was great, but so many whistles.
  6. Pulling for Caldwell County to defeat University Heights in region 2. Not a Heights fan because they always seem to "add" players from other teams.
  7. This has been true for the last 6-7 years. It all depends on how the draw goes to whom gets the runner up trophy. In 2000, Hopkins County Central won the region and wasn't the favorite. Since then the favorite has won it. Madisonville North in 2001; and after that it has been whoever survives the 8th district. This year will be no different. Hopkinsville and Henderson County did have a very close game for 3 quarters. But the tigers pulled away with a double digit victory and Henderson lost a player for the rest of the year. Hopkinsville then smoked Madisonville at Madisonville. Caldwell County will get their shot at them, but Caldwell didn't play very well when they met up with Henderson County. I don't see anyone in the second region staying close to them. But as another post stated; they can stop themselves. I don't see it though. Now as far as the state tournament goes, I look for them to reach the final four again and then as we all know, anyone can win it when you get that far. But when the draw is finalized we will have a better idea how far they could go.
  8. 7 Christian County 5 Owensboro 3 Franklin Simpson 2 Marshall County 1 Cumberland County TB Christian County
  9. Henderson, along with Madisonville have given Hoptown scares the past 2 years in the regional tourney. Hopkinsville plays Madisonville tonight so that will give us an idea if the Maroons can stay with them.
  10. It was a much closer game, actually tied at the start of the 4th quarter. I don't have the actual free throw stats but I think at one time Hoptown was 2 for 18.
  11. Hopkinsville at Madisonville has been cancelled.
  12. Final. Henderson lead the entire way. Caldwell struggled scoring, got some open looks but just rushed their shot. Henderson and Hopkinsville are clearly the two best teams in the second region.
  13. The middle school is on the same campus, buildings are side by side. Have not heard details about the tournament they are hosting. Roof damage, several classrooms were flooded as well that were around the gym.
  14. I would say over the last ten years; softball has been their best sport. Twice they have won the all A regional tournament. They won the 7th district tournament also in that period. Softball dropped off this past year, but still have some young talent but they are in a very tough region.
  15. Scribe, I just hope the guy with leaf blower got to where he was going after the game. It sounded as if he was in a hurry! Or as you would say, "unbelievable"!
  16. I had to check the local paper to make sure it was correct. The Maroons had 16 different kids score and the leading scorer had just 12. I have seen Dawson play. The have one senior and one junior. The rest of the team is freshmen. That freshmen class will be a decent group if they don't get so discouraged by what is going to be a very difficult season.
  17. University Heights, Hopkinsville, and Christian County are all in the same district as well as same county. It's very difficult to win that district but for the rest of the region it is very difficult to win the region. In 2000, Hopkins County Central won the region. In 2001, Madisonville won the region. Since then, UHA, Hopkinsville and Christian County have won the region. Great preview Scribe, I would like to see one more stat and I know you have it. Regional runner up numbers. Just curious to see who has the most?
  18. Most coaches love to say, "Boys I hope we are practicing on Thanksgiving Day". I think most would stick with that also. Practice, which would most likely be a Thursday night walkthrough anyway. Then get up on Friday morning and leave. Plan the trip with scheduled stops. Know where your going to stop and eat. Frankfort to Mayfield; you also get an hour back when traveling west. Planning is the key, nothing worse than getting there way to early and waiting. Charter bus would make the travel much better.
