No, it was in the 80s....79 was my senior year, and we lost that game in overtime on a very controversial call...but there was no use of a credit card.

Has to be 1985...it happened in the 80s, not the 70s. We played at PT in the odd numbered years. The credit card game was won by Tilghman in a game played at Paducah. In the 81 game, mayfield won...same for 1983. The first game Paduch Tilghman won against Mayfield in a game played at McRight Stadium was 1985...has to be 1985.

This is a year when everyone in contention will be "on a mission" Mayfield...on a mission to leave 1A as the reigning state champions Frankfort...they fulfilled phase one of the mission last year when they finally defeated Beechwood...this year, phase two...win the semifinals and get to the title game Beechwood...on a mission to to get back to the title game, and in doing so break the losing streak to Mayfield...its their last chance before realignment. Russelville...see Beechwood's mission Williamsburg...on a mission to get back to Bowling Green to get the Cardinal out of their mouth...hoping to do what Hazard did in 2011

Beechwood didn't field the caliber of defensive team last year that they normally do. This really showed up in the loss to Frankfort in the playoffs. I fully expect them to be on top of that because if they don't they wont make it out of the west.

Mayfield made an adjustment on defense after the Caldwell Co. game...everyone bought into it, and it produced a state championship playoff run that allowed just ONE touchdown scored against them, and that one was scored by...Caverna

Great job, Mayfield! Great record for this senior class...57-3 for their 4 year career playing in the red and black...3 state championships...awesome.

I'm going to try this one more time...I was simply trying to give kudos to Williamsburg for making it to a STATE FINAL...something Mayfield had NEVER DONE until 1976...hence, the new kid on the block reference. THAT's IT. Good grief!

Relax guys, and put down the Cardinal Cool-Aid ...Lets start with the year that Kentucky developed the classification system... Mayfield was never a CONSISTANT player in the playoffs from 1959 until the early 70s... we lost more playoff games than we won... Jack Morris became head coach in 1969, and won a total of TWO playoff games prior to 1976. Since then, we have been lights out.... that is why I said early to mid seventies.

I feel rather confident that the Cardinals will not take the Yellow Jackets lightly. The seniors on this year's team can probably stil feel the sting from the loss in the 2011 title game to Hazard. I do believe that Mayfield will win this game...and I am basing that just on how well our defense is playing. Interesting side note, Mayfield should be the visitors, and we have yet to win one in Bowling Green with our bench on that side of the field...until this year.

I'll clarify, not all the Frankfort players were responsible, but there were some that were as intent on taunting the Mayfield players, and taunting the Mayfield fans as they were on winning the football game. They played very undisciplined football, and when the game was obviously decided...some of them obviously quit putting much effort in helping their team. These are just my own personal observations. Having said all of that, I do think that the Panthers had a really good defense. They put as much pressure on our QB as any team we have played.

Mayfield DOMINATED the entire game. The stats will show it. Frankfort's only score came from a fumble in the end zone that they picked up for a TD. Their offense did nothing...all night long. Very disappointed in the Frankfort football team...they showed as little character as any team I have seen come in to play at War Memorial, and I'll just leave it at that. Great job by our defense! Looking forward to traveling to Bowling Green again...Go Big Red!

Murray over Caldwell

It was clearly evident that it hurt Russelville to be without one of their best players (number eight)...he did play in the game, but was a non-factor. That left them with their QB as their main weapon, and he is not a passer...game was over right there. Cardinal D is in championship form...offense is still trying to adjust to Jackson not being in there. Trajan had a great game...great to see that! Got to get ready for another tough opponent next week.

Looks to me like his forward progress was stopped around the one, or even the half yard line. Tough call for SW...great break for PT...they needed it. One other thing, WHERE ARE ALL THE FANS!? when you watch the video of the FG kicks, it allows you to see an almost EMPTY stadium on the home side of the field. WOW...it's the regional final...hmmmmm.

I don't know how to explain it...yeah, we won 35-0, but it was as ugly a win that I have ever witnessed. We made "bad news bears" mistakes last night...hopefully you will understand the reference...like the moment Tao had tipped the ball to himself to intercept it, and another one of our players decided he wanted it, and neither one of them caught it. Stuff like that...all night long. I celebrate the victory, but we cant have another one those nights. one more thing, I agree, the defense was awesome...great job Cardinal D!
