Wow, that kicker has to be sick right now. I expected this one to be a low scoring affair with these 2 defenses, especially with the weather conditions as they were. SW has a helluva defensive team, but, PTs isn't too shabby either. Great win for the Tornados. Best of luck next week vs Wayne. Should be another very good game.

Also, I wish I had a smoking gun to show you on video, but the safety that ultimately allowed PT's FG to be a game winner looked like a totally blown call. (2nd quarter, it changed the score from 7-3 to 7-5, and when PT hit their FG in the 4th it put them up 8-7 instead of down 7-6) Maybe I'm not clear on the rules, but I thought they had to go into the end zone with the ball first of their own free will, not taken back into the end zone when forward progress was established outside of it.

Looking at it, I thought he handed off and thought no way safety. But it looks like qb kept it and bounced off his own man and then taken down. Kind of a hard angle but the defense doesn't look to have grabbed him until around the end zone. Close one

The ball should've been placed somewhere around 1/2 yard to a yard from the goal line. He disengaged from the initial contact when trying to hand the ball off, but never retreated into the endzone. He was outside the end zone when the defender stopped his forward progress and drove him into the endzone. Blown call IMO.

Looks to me like his forward progress was stopped around the one, or even the half yard line. Tough call for SW...great break for PT...they needed it.

One other thing, WHERE ARE ALL THE FANS!? when you watch the video of the FG kicks, it allows you to see an almost EMPTY stadium on the home side of the field. WOW...it's the regional final...hmmmmm.

Personally, I think it was just as impactful. I don't think it not being called would have significantly altered strategy for the rest of the game until the very end. PT attempted three FGs afterwards. One was blocked, one was missed, one was that game winner. Would they have gone for one of them if they were down 4 instead of 2? Perhaps, hard to say. The most viable would have been when they kicked that game winner. It was a 4th and 2 from the SW 22. They had just been stuffed on a 3rd and 3 attempt. There was 7:30 left in the game. They could have gone for the TD instead, or (probably in my opinion) they kick it still to make it a 1 point game. Their D had been suffocating SW all night and PT had enjoyed great field position.

 

In the end, the 2 points were the difference between that FG drawing them within 1, and winning it.
