Not official, but pretty sure the scoring went like this for Holmes: Riley-15 R. Johnson- 11 Pittman- 9 J. Johnson- 9 Housely- 6 Arnold- 3 D. Johnson 2

Recap of the game: First quarter Holmes jumped out to an early 5-0 lead within the first minute behind 3 straight points by DJ and lay up by Riley. Sk responded with a 6-0 run behind back to back 3's though to give them a 6-5 lead. Holmes then went on a 7-0 run, keyed by jumpers from JJ and Housely, as well as a 3 by Pittman to put them up 12-6. SK again answered with a basket but Arnold then scored 3 straight points for Holmes to put Holmes up 15-8. Theme of the night, Sk came back down and hit another 3 to close within 4 at 15-11 but Riley had a nice up and under at the other end with 2 seconds left to give Holmes a 17-11 advantage heading in to the second quarter. 9 of SK's 11 points were from 3's. Second quarter SK started the quarter on a 7-2 run in the first 3 minutes, keyed by an and one by Sorrell and jumper by Barnes to tie the game at 19-19. Pittman then took over and keyed an 8-0 run to close out the quarter. He had a personal 6-0 run including a break away one hand dunk that put Holmes up 25-19. With time winding down Rico got open undeneath and got a bucket to put Holmes up 27-19 heading in to the half. Sorrell led SK with 7 in the first half and Pittman led Holmes with 9, despite sitting out the last 2 minutes of the first, and first 3 minutes of the second quarter. Third quarter Riley started off the quarter with a nice drive and lay in, but SK scored the next 5 points to close the Holmes lead to 29-24. Pittman was then sent to bench at the 5:07 mark with 3 fouls after back to back calls against him in less than 30 seconds. Rico then scored 4 straight to put Holmes up 33-24 but once again, Sk responded at the other end with a 3 to make the score 33-27. Rico responded with a jumper at the other end though to put Holmes up 8 at 35-27. Sk then came down and hit ANOTHER 3 to close the score at 35-30. Things were back and forth from there but with Holmes up 40-33, Sorrell hit a big jumper at the buzzer to put SK down by just 5 heading in to the fourth. Rico had 8 points in the third quarter after Pittman went to the bench. Fourth quarter SK opened up with back to back baskets including a jumper by Barnes that made the score 40-39 Holmes at the 6:38 mark. JJ then got a big steal out of a timeout and got an and one to put Holmes back up 4 at 43-39. Rico then got a steal with Holmes leading 43-40 and made one of two free throws to put them ahead 44-40. Pittman would then return to the game at 4:06 mark, after sitting out since then 5:07 mark of the 3rd. Barnes responded in a big way at the other end after the free throw, with a jumper to cut the Holmes lead to 2 at 44-42. Riley then had a personal 5-0 run, including a BIG 3 to put Holmes up 49-42. Not going away though, Chambers came down and hit a 3 with 1:08 left to put SK down 49-45. Housely and Sorrell then traded free throws to make the score 51-47 with 23 seconds left, but JJ and Riley sealed the deal and made 4 straight to give Holmes a hard fought 55-47 win. For SK, they shot the ball very well from outside. Barnes, and Sorrell both had nice games and were HUGE for the Neers' tonight. I believe Sorrel finished with 17. Give credit to SK...they played hard tonight. For Holmes, if not for Riley and Rico taking over in the second half, they likely would have lost this game. I know Riley finished with 15, but not sure about Pittman or Rico. Holmes players have to learn to finish teams out though and not let them hang around the way SK did, or they'll be heading home early. I much rather see them have a close game right before districts though than a blow out. Should give them one last wake up call before the real season starts...let the games begin. Tough loss for the Cards. Sounds like it was a great game though.

Wow big win for the Indians. I thought St. Hank might take this one. HC is tough at home. If Holmes plays against HC like they did tonight against SK, Holmes will be sent home early.

Considering Riley is more than halfway to Ferg's total 3's with 104 less shots, I feel pretty confident that the answer to that is yes.. Same with Meyer. He's only 24 3 pointers behind Ferg and that's in 5 less games and almost 80 shots less. Again, I agree Ferg is the best SCORER, but not SHOOTER.

It's easy to claim Ferg as the best shooter because nobody else has come close to taking the same amount of shots as him!! Riley's 3pt and Ft% are both higher than his. Meyer's 3pt% is higher than Ferg's as well. How can people proclaim him the best shooter in the state when other kid's stats support they're the better player from outside? Scorer, I'll agree with, but not shooter.

What about the schools like Shelby Valley, Elliott Co, Hazard, Bardstown, etc who are just as small but year in and year out are still contenders around the state? If Dayton, Bellevue, Ludlow, etc want to get better, it starts with improving the schedule...from freshman on up. Beechwood has ALWAYS played the bigger D2 and D1 schools. Sure they may take their lumps here and there but it's going to make them better in the long run, and we're seeing it right now.

From watching his highlights, I've noticed he either shoots the 3 or gets in the lane for 8-10 footers. Assuming that's correct, I'd say his high percentage has a lot to do with how many easy baskets he gets around the rim. (Same could be said about Pittman as well)

Ferguson can fill it up, but IMO Ethan has the better shot selection.

Impressive...especially considering the competition he's faced this year.

Meyer is very underrated around the state. I'd personally take him and Riley as my 3 point threats over ANYONE else in the state. Both can fill it up from outside. Could you imagine those two together? Riley running the point with Barrett at the 2? :eek:

You sure about that? I know Pittman isn't a "shooter" but he is 56% from the field with over 200 attempts on the year. (144/259 FG...20/65 3 pt Fg) Riley is also shooting above 40% with over 200 attempts. (100/204..49%)

Riley's "weakness", if you want to call it that at 49%, is probably his mid range game. Outside, I'd put him up against anyone. IMO he's the best 3 PT SHOOTER in the state. First year Riley has started but he's been putting up numbers like that all his life, from elementary, middle school, jv, and varsity ball to AAU. He is a very humble kid about his abilities and it shows, as he is in the gym EVERY morning an hour before school shooting to get better. From what I hear, he's also constantly playing pick up games outside of school at the local gyms to try and get better as well. Riley hasn't attempted that many but he's 43/100 on 3 pointers. That's a little over half of what Ferg has on 104 less shots..... Assuming you give him 100 more shots and he does what he's did all year, he'd be 86/200. All speculation, but still pretty impressive.

Starts JV. 6th or 7th man on varsity.
