Wow, Im sure this was a heartbreaking loss for GRC. This very well could have been a State Final in some respects. Both teams are good enough to make it to the Sweet 16 and advance.

On the post radio show, they said the the Ballard fans stormed the court after the game. Also remember we played without Rogers. I love and respect the way the Cards never give up. Also they handled the press very well tonight , which had been a weakness of ours early in the season. I really like the way the Cards are playing now. Coach had some really tuff games at the end of the season and has the Cards ready for our post season run.

I think they said Hatton had 13 and played most of the 4th quarter with 4 fouls.

Daniels had 4.

I can't remember what they said Zollo had.

WOW. What a game. Based on the storming the court comment, I assume it was Senior Night at Ballard. Gutsy performance by GRC on the road. I really like their coach and the way their kids have handled all of the adversity this year. Best of luck to both teams in the playoffs.

I was there...broadcast the Oldham County - Ballard girls game immediately beforehand and decided to stick around to see what I suspected would be an awesome basketball game - and it was.

It was senior night at Ballard, and both schools had a large contingent of fans. The Bruin student section did storm the court afterward.

Kudos to both teams. This was a fan's delight - particularly for someone like me, who had no allegiance to either team.

GRC bolted to a 21-5 lead...that was the score early in the 2Q...but Ballard fought back and kept climbing back into contention. Stenzel was marvelous from the outside, and I was very impressed by Zollo, as well as #4, who came off the bench.

GRC was extremely disciplined on both ends of the court - but Ballard's athleticism was an advantage for the Bruins on offense. Even running a 2-3 zone as GRC did throughout, they had tremendous difficulty preventing Ballard from getting the ball inside.

Both teams repeatedly got their crowds up with some thrilling individual and team plays. Ballard had a slam off an alley-oop that was extraordinary. Zollo, Stenzel, and #4 on GRC (sorry, don't know his name) hit shot after big shot. I was really impressed with all three, but perhaps especially Zollo; I don't remember the big kid ever coming out of the game. Wesley Cox of Ballard put on a clinic from beyond the arc, hitting at least 7 threes.

In the final two minutes, Stenzel twice hit threes to put GRC up by 6, and twice Cox responded immediately at the other end with a three of his own to pull Ballard back to within one possession.

In the end, the game came down to a few little things that GRC didn't do right. With about two minutes left, GRC had a 2 on 1 break with the two guards leading the way, and the pass was mishandled for a turnover... With about a minute to play, and Ballard trapping in the halfcourt, GRC made an ill-advised pass at midcourt that resulted in a Ballard layup at the other end, pulling the Bruins to within one. Moments later, with Stenzel at the line and GRC nursing a one point lead - with 15 seconds left - the GRC coach opted to send all of his players to the other end of the court on defense (it was the second time he did this tonight, which I found curious - although I'm told Stenzel is the best FT shooter on the team, everyone misses every now and then...). Stenzel missed the front end of the one-and-one, and Ballard scored on a layup with 5 seconds to play to account for the final score.

Stenzel's three from the right wing just before the buzzer missed...

I think these two teams would split 10 games dead-even. My impression was that the Cardinals are the more disciplined team, with better overall shooters and rebounders. The Ballard guards were better, and the Bruins were more athletic. I was also impressed with Ballard's moxie after falling behind by 16 early.

Was a great performance on the road. Our kids and coaching staff has handled the adversity very well. We have not played a game all year with everyone healthy, a very tuff schedule and are still 21-6. Very proud of these Cards.:thumb:

Congrats Ballard!

To all the GRC fans . . . Ballard is one heck of an opponent. Sometimes a loss can help a team focus on the BIG picture/goal.

#4 is Jaylan Daniels. He had been starting for Rogers after he got hurt. Coach opted to start Bailey tonight.

Zollo usually dosn't come out of the game. Injuries to Pervis and Rogers has made the subbing rotation change.

Glad you enjoyed the game, and thanks for the recap.
