Dayton's defense was horrible and for a team with talent, they appear to exhibit lackluster heart and desire, as twice in the past couple weeks they simply were outhustled by the opponent in the last minute of the game when they allowed crucial rebounds by the opponent off of free throws. Thus...losses. In last night's game, they actually let a ball hit the floor without attempting to rebound it in a crucial time...down by a bucket maybe with a minute left. For this team to play to their abilities and be something special (I think they have 4 or 5 returning next year), they are going to have to show some desire and improve defensively. Not sure how many points Villa's PG had, but it had to be close to 50 :puke:

Junior guard Blake Bryan sank four 3-pointers en route to his game-high 40 points as the Villa Madonna boys' basketball team defeated Dayton 84-81 Tuesday.

 

Dayton led by nine after the first period and eight at halftime, but Villa Madonna rallied to outscore Dayton 43-32 in the second half.

 

Junior forward Timmy Massey led Dayton with 19 points.

I don't think you can blame the coaching on this at all. Last year the kids on this team at one point were pretty ridiculous. I believe they all just didn't show up to a practice. Other times they were "me" players, and talked back to the coach. This year it's a different bunch, but I still think the players just don'e respect their coaches because from what I've seen these coaches are very good.

These greendevils are still pretty young. I think next year may be their year to take DIII. I think the coaching staff does a great job with what they have.

40 points for Bryan....That's ridiculous. Scary thing is, this kid's only a junior. He could average 40 next year as a senior.

He plays against the competition on his school's schedule, so does he transfer so he isn't playing against "intramural type" teams, or should he have his school change divisions and recruit more students so they aren't DIII. Pelle seems to be doing ok at college and he was one that played that "intramural" schedule. Please!!!!!!!!!!!:irked::puke:

So do you think playing DivIII gets you ready to compete in the Region?

Romes isn't doing to bad at MSJ either, Pelle competed on top notch AAU teams, but scoring or averaging 40 pts a game against the competition in DIII. There is no real defense played in DIII, at not least the kind that forces you to run an offense. DIII is not the same as playing a team sport were the goal is to win a real championship.

The problem with all this is playing each team 2x it just doesn't give you enough opportunities to get better.

Dayton seems to be building for the future with a fine young team. When this team becomes juniors and seniors do you really think continuing to play this schedule will let them compete in the Region or do you just set lower goals?
