Bryan Station 71 Henry Clay 66
I would like to see them against Elliott who has 3 pretty gritty defensive minded in your face guards themselves. If they got 61 on the Faulkner's and Ferg then I would give them the player of the year awards. Doubt we will see a BS-Elliott game unless it is somewhere in Rupp. But that is certainly a possibility!!! Our guys would love the challenge......

Mercer Co. vs Anderson Co. (12/12)
I have a friend who has lived and been involved in AC sports for 20 years. Anderson has only been to the big dance twice. 1971 with Connor, Green, and Ruggles when they were runner-ups and 1997 with Beasley when they got beat in the first round. Many of the natives are restless/frustrated and many will settle for nothing less than a region championship this year from Drury.

West Carter @ Elliott Co. (12/11)
Undefeated and 3-0 West Carter ventures into the Hook Den. Elliott by more than enough and a bunch.

Agreed. I wouldn't put much stock in December games period. It will all come down to who is playing well in the month of February. Who is playing good then, and who is playing good now may not line up the same way. GRC will only get better with more games and experience. Stenzel is a 24ppg type guy and yes I'm sure it would have been different with his output tonight. Stenzel impressed me more at Russell than the other sophomores. Saw him a lot in Summer AAU ball and he is a REAL PLAYER........

Should Football Season end by Dec 1??
Basketball teams play around 30 games a year and can play 3 or 4 games in one week. Last time I looked football teams play 15 or less per year and only one per week. Point--In basketball you can eliminate the teams in back to back days---Haven't seen that done in football. Kinda like comparing apples and oranges.

Think too much hype too early about GRC. I saw them at the Russell scrimmage vs. Elliott. Loads of talent, but they are just that SOPHOMORES and very young. Elliott has 7 of the top 8 as seniors with tons of experience. Top 20 team right now?? Maybe or maybe not doesn't really matter. Top 10 and possibly Top 5 team by mid Feb?? Most definitely.... They have a load of talent and those sophomores will be playing closer to Juniors by then. Still my pick to win the 10th, but if the regional was held this weekend they might be in trouble.

Russell 73 Boyd Co. 57
Yep--and they have Elliott coming into their house next Tuesday. They must play better than this or it will get ugly before the popcorn is done.......

I bet Morones and Ashford didn't get 71 pts. like they did against Holmes unless they scored all the points tonight??

Scott Co. 81 Tates Creek 76
Well I wish it was that easy to figure out, but the math game doesn't work anymore. Self-confession is good for the soul.....
-
Scott Co. 81 Tates Creek 76
Wow. This is not a top 25 team in most everyone's poll and TC may be the 5th best team in Lexington. Those that have SC written in as 2009 State Champs might wish you didn't use the permanent marker. Holmes loses and now SC down by 12 at the half and only winning by a few points. Guess we have a wide open race to March 21st in Rupp after all. Seems there are other teams that want a piece of the pie after all........... Kinda makes one scratch his head and go hmmmmmmm.........

Should Football Season end by Dec 1??
I agree that the season should end on Thanksgiving weekend. Take out the bye week and too many teams in the playoffs. Cut it down by one week of playoffs (4 playoff games win the whole class title vs. the 5 weeks now). Must be like 80% of the teams in the playoffs now.

Menifee Co. 66, Rowan Co. 63
Just trying to make the 16th a little more interesting. Good start for Menifee at 3-0. Who knows if Elliott and them meet in mid-January Menifee may have double digit wins and only a few losses?? Also, a correction. Actually they would meet in the 16th Region All A SF on Tuesday January 20th vs. Monday January 19th. January 19th would be the Rose Hill/Raceland winner playing Bath County who also got a bye. Haven't seen Menifee play in the history of the school and have been to Frenchburg, but never in the gym or the school. Can't wait. New places and new faces in mid-January for what I hope is three trips to Frenchburg.

East Carter/Lewis Co. Predictions
I say East by 7 points. After the double digit loss to Tates Creek I am not so sure if East is the #2 team in the region or not. There may be no #2 team at this point in the season. With the loss of Johnson and Sagraves they may not be as strong as last year. Maybe they will be by the middle of February. Tates Creek is very young with a lot of sophomores and is probably the 5th best team in Lexington after Catholic, Bryan Station, Dunbar, and Henry Clay.

ColonelMike--Not trying to get on your case. But the point is that most in a quick thought don't come up with Elliott County. They are not a year in and year out powerhouse. Also they are stuck up in the mountains and somewhat isolated. They are near no major media outlets except if you want to count the weekly newspaper the Elliott News. Many on here make that make the negative comments about them haven't seen them play and have been no where near Sandy Hook or don't know or care which mountain range it is located between. If I hadn't seen them play as much as I have then I would probably assume they are a bunch of short mountain kids that don't play anybody and shouldn't be in the Top 20. A few heads were changed last March in Rupp when they had the State Champs on the ropes, but let it slip away.

Mercer Co. vs Anderson Co. (12/12)
Haven't seen Taylor or Mercer play. Anderson is a real threat to win the 8th region and many have them in the Top 25 in the state. Penny is the real deal and may end up at Western Kentucky University and has several D-1 offers. If Taylor can hold his own with Penny then he is the real deal and a D-1 potential player. Have heard good things about Taylor, but he doesn't show up in the Top 25-30 player listings around the state. Maybe with some more 29 point games like he had in Stearns he will come early spring. I understand he is a junior and very athletic at 6'5". With that said and the fact that AC is 3-0 with all wins in double digits I'll pick AC by 10.

Does Elliott County ever come to your mind?? They are a long ways from Oldham County!!! Down I-64 and then off and over several mountain ranges and winding backroads. Not on the way to anywhere in particular. Gotta wana get there to get there if you know what I mean Vern. Just wondering as they stay on my mind for some odd reason.

Menifee Co. 66, Rowan Co. 63
Elliott may play them on Monday night January 19th if they can beat Fairview in the first round of the All A Regional on Saturday Jan. 17th. The All A Regional is in their gym in Frenchburg this year. May make for an interesting night in the Cracker Box and an upset special!!!! Never can tell???

Elliott Co. 96 Morgan Co. 43
One other note. Many noticed I did not comment on the first thread that was closed. I didn't think any comments were necessary with the direction of the thread. Holmes, Elliott County, and Scott County are all good teams. Elliott could lose to a 16th region team. Elliott could get beat in the district. So could a lot of other teams. Nothing is for sure in life but death and taxes.

Elliott Co. 96 Morgan Co. 43
T. Knipp had two thundering dunks. One in the set offense where he ran off a pick on the baseline and got a lob from Ethan Faulkner. The other on a fast break with a meeting at the basket with a Morgan player. He is more agressive on the inside with several blocks and changing shots. T. Knipp is the key to how far Elliott will go. His continued improvement will only make Elliott better. We all know the consistency & sterling play we get with the Faulkner twins and Ferg, but T. Knipp has plenty of room to grow and improve over the next few months. The continued improvement of the bench will be key #2. The bench so far is ahead of schedule with some quality minutes.

Holmes v Bryan Station Predictions (12/5)
No Shelvin Mack for station so Holmes wins by 20, (81-61).
-
Scott County vs. Duncanville Tx.
I expect this to be a 2-5 point game one way or the other. Scott County played them in Myrtle Beach last year and only lost by 6 points. Scott County is much better and Duncanville has everyone back from last year. Should be a great game loaded with 10-12 college players. Game is also on ESPN about 9 or 9:30PM which must be a replay. I think tip-off is 6:30PM at Marshall County.

Morgan County at Elliott County Predictions 12/5
You must be banking on Morgan shooting about 75% from the field. With Elliott's defense and relentless pressure a better chance of me selling you some ocean front property in Arizona than them shooting anywhere near 75% Morgan may have 75 something--not points or shooting percentage-------- TURNOVERS. By the way, I will be there. Wouldn't want to miss a 1 point game!!!!
