  1. I agree to some extent. SV did schedule Dunbar, Henry Clay, and Walton GA that were considered to be an upgrade. Ashland is typically a tougher team and this is the return game of that contract. Raceland was tough last year and this is the return game of that contract. They play Perry Co. from the 14th and they are typically a tough team and North Laurel from the 13th. They play a tournament in Florida with very tough competition and the tournament at North/South Laurel (with Knott County, Corbin, and South Laurel). They 15th is down even more than usual this year and that magnifies the poor competition you sometimes get on this end of the state. I would like to have seen them in the 5/3 or KOB, but that's not the case.
  2. The first half was a free throw shooting contest. I think Pikeville was 15-20 in the 1st half, and SV was 11-17.
  3. Pikeville had a good gameplan to make the game as ugly and physical as possible. There were 24 fouls called in the 1st half, and absolutely no flow to the game. Curby Tackett stepped up huge for SV with 18 points and 5 or 6 blocked shots. Shelby Valley outscored Pikeville by 30 points in the second half...
  4. No, I think Elliott is a super talented team. But as an outsider I see Elliott fans defending their schedule as if it is tough when in reality it is not. I think Elliott is a legit top 5 team in the state.
  5. Play fewer games within the terribly weak 16th. I don't want to hear the money issue because if they can afford to go to the Beach Ball Classic then they can afford to drive to Lexington... 15 games within a region so terrible is poor, poor scheduling from Elliott's coach.
  6. But it's a very legitimate argument. Elliott County definitely doesn't play a schedule that you typically see from a top 5 type team. It's very understandable for people to not be convinced by 30 point wins over drastically inferior competition. The players can't do anything about the schedule, but it makes you wonder why the coach didn't do more with it having such a talented team...
  7. I've watched South Charleston play and they are by no means an outstanding team. They are not the same caliber of the top teams in Kentucky. I would not consider this a really tough game...
  8. Another good win for a mountain school... Stuart Stamper led the way with 30 and Tate Cox had 17.
  9. Another impressive win for Shelby Valley. Walton is led by Georgia Tech signee Glen Rice Jr. and North Carolina State commit Ryan Harrow. SV was led in scoring by Elisha Justice with 22 and 10 assists. Ashley Hatfield had 18 and Devan Adams had 14...
  10. It will be a good opportunity to see how Shelby Valley's defensive pressure holds up against two high caliber guards...
  11. Yes, at Shelby Valley. It was their 45th consecutive home win...
  12. This one was over early with SV up 25-7 after one and 38-13 at the half...
  13. A couple of thoughts.... Small schools have to deal with the up and down talent cycle that comes with a small enrollment. Pikeville has been the beneficiary of transfer/out of district players for some time now. However, consolidation has caused more players to stick with their original schools. Even this year the top 2 football players (Harmon & Baker) were originally from other schools. The talent pool in Pikeville is just very shallow at the present time.
  14. I'm not an East Ridge fan but... Stats from the LHL from their game on Tuesday show him with 14 points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocked shots against Pike Central...
  15. On a side note, the 15th region is SOOOOO down this year... Down even for the 15th...
  16. I'm not sure what to make of Ashland... they don't look to have a bad team, but they just don't seem to have any playmakers. They shot the ball fairly well, but the big man didn't do very much.
  17. I think this is a good early test for both teams...
  18. Nice early season win for Corbin. Clay is not a bad team...
  19. Final. Shelby Valley led 37-16 after the first quarter, and Ashland was never really able to make a run. Elisha Justice led SV with 22, Ashley Hatfield with 15, and Devan Adams with 14....
  20. At this point I'm not sure anyone in the 15th is good, other than Shelby Valley...
  21. That's a massive number of FT's for one player to shoot...
