  1. I was awfully surprised by this one. I know in the previous years people thought that McCreary had a chance to get out of the region, but this year I would have thought that they would have been a heavy favorite. I bet that the Raider hopeful are toting torches and pitch forks this morning.
  2. Without Wilson's hussle Wayne wins this game. Wilson scored about 10 points in the second half off of being a tenacious defender. Johnson hit a few three's in the first half but didn't make much noise in the second half. Corbin will still be pretty good when you throw Manns into the mix but they are going to have to find someone else to put some points on the board.
  3. Coach Sears has been stricken with the swine flu. Please send him your prayers.
  4. The simple fact of the matter is if Corbin and South meet in either of the two championship games, South has to be the favorite. Even though Corbin has better players in four of the five positions, and has a deeper bench I still believe South to be the better team in this type of game. The Cardinals are Corbin's white devil. They have it in their head that they cannot beat south. Until Corbin can win that big game (which the past few years have proven the outcome of that) I believe that South has to be the favorite in the District, and Region.
  5. Yeah, South would probably want to take their chances in the tournament with Whitley considering that they won the first game by six and the last game by two. Since the wins were so convincing I think it is obvious that they will walk over who ever they face in the first round of the district. As for the tie; if South were to win the final matchup with Corbin, it will force a tie. Even though Corbin has won 2 of the 3 matchups, the regular season district games are all that matter. A coin flip decides the 1st seed and the 2nd seed.
  6. I happened to see the game last night and it was a hard fought effort on both ends of the floor. Corbin is a little better than I thought that they would be and Whitley is also a little better than I thought that they would be. It was a very physical ball game by both teams. I thought the officiating was bad on both ends of the floor. There wasn't any sort of consistency of the officials which made it difficult for players to get into a flow. I would have assumed that there would have been better officials assigned to a big district game, but leave it to the thirteenth region to assign C officials to one of the most important games of the season for these schools. Crawford hit some incredible shots and looks to be back to 100%. Whitley's defensive effort was incredible, they won every loose ball and defended the hounds surprisingly well.
  7. Kenneth Farley is the one who is coordinating this event.
  8. I was just wondering the thought process behind ranking Harlan County in the top 10 of the region when they haven't played a single game. The three schools that combined weren't very good last year (with the exception of Cumberland) and didn't have much promise in their underclassmen. If someone could clarify this for me I would surely appreciate it. On a different note, the cool weather is giving me the basketball bug already. Can't wait for this season to start.
  9. This wouldn't be a home court advantage for anyone, other than Corbin. Corbin would be able to practice on that floor anytime that they wanted. They are already a powerhouse in the region, now we are talking about giving them a permanent homecourt advantage every year. Seems like that might make it difficult on the other teams in the region.
  10. Actually I live in Keavy so I may need to change my profile location to Northwest of Hell :fire:
  11. I think the Hounds have, by far, the best talent in the 13th. In all five spots they are better than anyone in the Region. However, this held true last season as well. For the hounds to "take it" this year they will have to resolve some of the mental issues that face their player personnel. Thats just one guys opinion.
  12. It seems to me that there are apparently an abundance of coaches in Williamsburg. Maybe the administration at Williamsburg should open the position up to some of the parents. It seems as though they have the whole situation figured out. As for the rest of the Bluegrass prep nation that actually wants to talk basketball instead of bashing a coach, I believe that Williamsburg IMPROVED in coach Robinson's second tenure as coach. Their record may not be indicitive of such a statement, but they played several teams very close. They will continue to improve and be very surprising when December rolls around. Williamsburg needs to continue developing their younger talent, and find a few more players that are willing to buy into Coach Robinson's style of play. I think that he found a very good role player in the Terry kid. As long as these players continue to improve, I believe that they will be much better.
  13. How do you figure that this would be the best for the Colonels?
  14. I think that our information is a little off here. I don't think those guys at Whitley are going anywhere for a while. I also believe that in reference to the top 10 13th region teams next year, that Corbin would have to be the heavy favorite due to the amount of returning players that they have, but as far as 2-10, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of flip flopping throughout the year. All of these teams are going to be pretty close as long as they remain healthy, and continue to improve in the off season :thumb:
  15. The whole story? The score tells you the whole story. And whitley plays 10 or 11 players on any given night so they actually couldn't have subbed out. There isn't any subbing out for the colonels. Simple fact is, when a team comes out in a full court press late in the third, ealry in the fourth they are trying to embarass you. That shows absolutely no class. Maybe Robert will let his fans start making better decisions for him down the road.
  16. I happen to ge to see the game tonight and I have to say; McCreary County has a great basketball team. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them in the sweet sixteen this year. Other than some presence in the post position, McCreary has an all around good basketball team. They guard play is tremendous. I have to say however that the above statement about running the score up is definately a farce. The McCreary county faithful decided to keep their main rotation in well into the fourth quarter, when the game was absolutely well out of reach for the undermanned Colonels. This happens sometimes. The disturbing factor to this game was the fact that coach Jones continued to Full Court press throughout the remainder of the game. Then, when the Raiders had a chance to reach the 100 point mark they fouled the Colonels as if it were a close game. Don't get me wrong, it is a great accomplishment to score a 100 points during a high school basketball game. This is a feat that is very rairly achieved in high school basketball. However, why would you want to run the score up on a team just to achieve this feat? Why would you bring in your best player (Watts) in with 1:30 left in the game in order to assure this goal. Its simple... Arrogance... McCreary county has the best team in possibly their schools history, and their team plays extremely hard. But pulling a move such as this only increases the chance of getting a key player injured, and only shows extreme disrespect to your opponent. Its sad when you let foolish pride and self indulgence take the place of sportsmanship and respect. To me this shows absolutely no class, and anyone involved in McCreary County sports should be embarassed by the actions taken during this game. You also comment on the fact that the only reason that Coach Jones continued to pummle the opposing team was becase of the fans. That shows some real self control right there. Where would high school athletics be if we let the fans and the parents make the decisions in the high school programs. As far as what Whitley coach said on the radio about this showing no class. I would definately have to agree. A coach should never subject an opposing team to this type of embarassment.
  17. This was the first time that I have been able to watch the Colonels since they played Williamsburg, and they looked like a different team. I heard that they played South and Adair Co in some very competitive games. It looked like Whitley was a completly different team tonight than the last game that I got to see them play. I can't quite remember the last time that I have seen a team play so intense for so long. Coach Baker sends player after player into the game and they don't lose a beat. Sounds like Coach Baker and the crew have their players headed in the right direction. Its good to see a competitive Colonel team for a change.
  18. Now that we have seen the first month of basketball I was wondering how your preseason thoughts were measuring up to how our local teams are currently playing. How would you rank the teams in the region now?
  19. Okay Fundamental... If you were coaching at the county and you were making a schedule, what would be your idea of a schedule that is not "weak."
  20. No worries, here. I'm just an outsider looking in on this but it seems as though soon as we start talking schedules we have to scrutinize the Colonels schedule. Jellico seems to be the weekest team on there other than Conerstone Christian. Two "gimmie" games on a 25+ game schedule. I just don't know how you can call that a weak schedule. I would say this schedule is comparable to MOST of the surrounding schools. Especially in the later part of the year whith schools such as North Laurel and Knox Central.
  21. Yeah, Whitley needs to toughen their schedule up a bit. I think that next year they might try scheduling Jellico three times in regular season, Richmond Model a time or two, and maybe even Burgin. That should get them ready for post season play. This would put them comparable to a few neighboring schools in the area.
  22. Does anyone know who ended up winning this tournament?
  23. From Apex's post, you can tell the the 'Burg has walked away with more than their fair share of wins out of this longstanding series with the Colonels. There have been some very good Jacket teams but the events that transpired before the Robinson kid took over has set them back. Brent West had the program on the right track, but the work of a few individuals ruined it. Now Robinson is building from the ground up in his first "real" year with the program. People have to be patient. There isn't going to be a quick fix to get the Burg back on track.
  24. Records from the past have no effect on tonights game. Williamsburg has had some pretty good teams in the past, but those players won't be there tonight to help the Jackets. Seems as though the Jackets have been struggling here lately and the Colonels are playing well. At least the Jackets will have "their record" to take with them after tonight.
