Courtney Sandlin came to WV last year. Her familiy moved her from Williamstown mainly for academics. She does well academically and wasn't being challenged at Williamstown. She still lives in that area but her parents bring her to and from WV each day. She is a very sweet gal!

Gallatin County started out with a very uptempo game, pressing Walton into a few turnovers in the first quarter. The Wildcats would open a 17-10 lead going into the second quarter. Things evened out in the second quarter as the 7 point lead held going into the locker room at the half, 25-18. Ashley Jones added the first three pointer of the game in the thrid quarter as she, led by her 7 points in the quarter opened up an 11 ppoint lead going into the final frame. Brooke Hill added 8 points in the 4th to seal the game to an eventual 47-34 final. The Wildcats will face Carroll County for the third time this year in the 8th Region All "A" Classic finals on Saturday. Kelli Dixon paced the Bearcats with 10 points while Ashley Jones led the Wildcats with 13 points while Brooke Hill and Christina Balsiger added 12 each. Gallatin County evens their record at 8-8 while Walton goes to 5-9 on the season with the loss.

Gallatin County won with their girls playing together well. WV's Lady Bearcats young team really showed through on this game. I am not sure how many turnovers they had because I lost count before the end of the second quarter. Our ladies are passing the ball off when they should go ahead and finish their shots when headed to the basket and way too many times a bounce pass was attempted to be made through the opponent. NOT going to happen!!:idunno: They had little outside shooting going on and it was just one of those nights where absolutely nothing would go in the basket. Gallatin County's team showed much improvement since their 43-39 win over Walton Verona in the beginning of the season. While WV has improved they still have a lot of fundamental mistakes that were made and need to be worked on. Keep working hard WV, we are behind you all the way!

Congratulations to the CCHS team on their win. WV was without their starter guard Ginn and the WV ladies are shaping right up! Clinkenbeard (an 8th grader) has done a really good job stepping in and plays with a good level head. WV has Grant County on Thursday night and will continue to improve!

Walton Verona was hanging tough up until half time scratching their way to being right with Ryle. The third quarter was a tough one for WV as Ryle's guard, Abby Jump got hot and hit many consecutive 3's to pull away from WV. WV will continue to improve and with the impressive and optimistic coach these ladies will continue to learn from these first three games. WV's Ginn goes to the doctor on Monday in regards to her bummed finger that occured against Gallatin County in the first quarter on Friday night.

Lots of turnovers tonight made by both teams. WV will need to really pull together for Friday's game at Gallatin. Go get 'em Lady Bearcats! We are all excited for this new season.:fight:

Walton Verona 69 Trimble County 46 Final

I thought that I would start a thread on everyone's opinion of who you think are the top guards in Northern Ky (or the state). Opinions?

Of course if teams did all of that they would win too-I am just saying that WV has a lot of experience under their belts at the varsity level and there should be no reason not to have the basics come natural for them. I hope to see them keep it all together tonight and bring a win home!

This one is really too tough to call! Walton is on a roll but are they tough enough to keep up with Girdy, Osborne and the rest of the Panthers? Coach Mefford's defense will be a tough one to get out of. I think the Lady Bear Cats can pull this game off if they watch their passes, feed Hargett and Dixon, light up the basket with the 3's and take care of the ball. All of the fundamentals. They(WV) have the experience to go full speed ahead. Carroll County is not a tall team and WV can out rebound them but they are a quick team. Girdy=Speedy Gonzalas! A full court press will not stop them. They have good shooting guards but I think their defense(CC) will be a big factor and will have to be out smarted by WV. Good luck to both teams......GO WALTON VERONA! You can do it!!

Congratulations WV! The Lady Cats got off to a slow start but we also saw some very early substitutions that I am not sure made sense but all and all the team pulled together and got the job done. Good job team and coaches!!
