I'm Out Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Nice win Walton. Can anybody tell me how many Seniors WV has? Also do any of them start or play much.
CincySportsFan Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Nice win Walton. Can anybody tell me how many Seniors WV has? Also do any of them start or play much. I think they have just two...Kelli Ryan and Claire Hoffa. Both have started, but from what I've seen Coach Miller has a pretty good rotation that really hasn't allowed super-significant minutes (28+) all the time. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, as I haven't seen all their games. Both are valuable though, as they're able to take some of the pressure off of, and spell Dixon (So.) and Ginn (Fr.). The future is very bright for WV, as you pair those two underclassmen with the likes of Sandlin (8th) and Judy (8th), and they could have a dominating front line with a very good point guard.
I'm Out Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I think the biggest difference for them next year will be the experience under the new coaching staff and the time they spend together during summer ball.

If they're able to keep these group of kids together, and everybody's on the same page...they're only going to get better. Should be able to make noise in the 32nd district, the All-A...and who knows...maybe even the 8th region. It might not happen this year, or even next. But, I would say the future is definitely bright.

I am very curious. There is a Sandlin that plays for Boone County and when speaking to her mother, she said the family is from the Walton/Grant Co. area. I was wondering if these two girls are related. Who are the parents on the Sandlin 8th grader at WV?
8675309 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I have seen the Sandlin girl that plays for WV a few of times this year. I can't believe she is only an 8th grader. She may be the best all around player that WV has. She seems like a leader on the floor, and always seems to put up big numbers (points and rebounds). This girl is going to be really good. Good luck to her and the WV team for the remainder of the season.
Trueblue23 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Courtney Sandlin came to WV last year. Her familiy moved her from Williamstown mainly for academics. She does well academically and wasn't being challenged at Williamstown. She still lives in that area but her parents bring her to and from WV each day. She is a very sweet gal!

Wasn't being challeneg academically? Give me a break. A classic case of parents putting too much emphasis on their child's school athletic career. I can only imagine what my dad would have said if I asked to move from Bellevue to some other school.

NKU99 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Maybe you should know all the facts. Academics are more important! One day sports will be gone.
GatorFan Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I don't have a dog in this fight and could care less. I thought W-town had great academics.
Preachit Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 As one looks at KCCt Scores, Plan Test Results, Grade, GMADE, and academic indexes located on KDE Website, one finds that WTOWN is slightly behind Walton in academics. Communnity values, geographic location, and lack of diversity may contribute to the differences in scores, but not lack of academic challenge.
1734 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Both schools are both rated highly academically. They difference is that WV can offer more than W'town can. My thinking is this is due to WV being almost double the size of W'town. When you have approx. 200 students in grades 9-12, some classes cannot be offered every year. Also, WV places a lot more emphasis on their athletic programs by their adminsitration and parents. At W'town, that emphasis is placed on other programs or activities. Back to the thread, WV is improving, but guard play will be their achilles heel. Ginn is not comfortable at the point and the 2 middle schools girls still play timid. Only time will tell how well they improve in the next couple of seasons.
