Sorry Gatorfan, not ment for you.

WV does have a great academic program and continues to improve.

WV Lady Bearcats seem to be improving as the season continues and with the strength and talent of the younger players; Sandlin, Judy, clinkenbeard and Mullikin the future looks good.

Courtney Sandlin came to WV last year. Her familiy moved her from Williamstown mainly for academics. She does well academically and wasn't being challenged at Williamstown. She still lives in that area but her parents bring her to and from WV each day. She is a very sweet gal!

Those in the know will tell you there were "forces" outside of academia that influenced this decision. These forces were also trying to work on the little Gayheart girl over in Owen County. Hate to see it happen, when the kids (and sometimes their parents) are getting "played" by adults.

The WV and W-town systems are both excellent, and deserve to stand by themselves on their own merit. Kudos to all the staff that put in the work that helps them achieve this status!

Changing gears here...what's happened to Grant County this year? I know they lost a couple of girls from last year, but had two post players (Lonkard and Workman) back, along with a 3pt. shooter (Plunkett) and were getting their point guard back from injury (Gorby). But, yet they've struggled this year. Thought their bench depth might hurt them down the stretch, but the starters haven't faired so well either. This is a team that I would have thought the starters would have been good for 45-50 by themselves, that's average (as a team) only about 42-43 a game. What gives?

They're just not that talented a group. Gorby is above average but the team cannot handle any pressure. They lack a true point guard. There's not much coming up either, not until 6th Grade.

... getting their point guard back from injury (Gorby).

Gorby is back playing. However, she is doing something that can only be considered a testament to her character, strength (both physical & mental) & her work ethic. Candace is playing her final year at Grant County with no ACL. She injured the same knee in an unfortunate incident in soccer in Sept when she planted her foot in a slight hole in the field & her spikes stuck. She has a complete tear of the ACL & had a partial tear in the MCL in the incident. Because she is very strong, did an amazing job of rehab the first time & fitted with a custom brace, her surgeon gave her the go to play her senior year. She will have surgery at the end of the season. Expect to see her playing in the future...:sssh:

That being said, Grant is struggling. A bit inexperienced, other than the 2 seniors, undersized & young. Never quite sure what you are going to get on any given night.

Another example of why soccer should be banned in high school.

I think what Candace is doing this year is nothing short of remarkable. It was unfortunate for her to go down in the first place last year. And then to be injured again during soccer season! All I can say is "Wow"...there's a lot of us that would've hung up the ol' sneakers after that.

All of that being said, it's still surprising to me the lack of offense from the rest of the team. I would've figured 8-10 a game from Gorby...12-15 from Plunkett...and 10-12 each from Lockard and Workman. They're not getting that though.

One of the problems I've seen is that it seems that once the ball enters the post, there's very few kickouts to the wing for Plunkett, Cope or Gorby. They've got some girls that can knock down the 3, but aren't getting them the ball in the "inside-out" game.

Some would agree...I am thinking her basketball coaches & her Dad are right there with you.

Good post.

:ylsuper: That's why I am still here!

I agree with your perspective CSF on what you've seen regarding GC.

In regards to Gorby, she was not scoring as much at the beginning of the season, but she has started picking up the 10 or so points per game in the last few weeks. It would make sense knowing about the knee. She had to learn what she can & cannot do & figure out footwork. Right knee, she is right handed. She has been dropping the 3 now too. It is interesting to think about...she had to figure out how to make moves or shots. Almost like having a tire or something on your leg while you do it. A spin move, a 3pt shot. Think about lifting off that leg for a layup. She is doing all of that. Very tough gal. Great work ethic. GC folks are very proud of her.

I don't have a dog in this fight and could care less. I thought W-town had great academics.
You're right....you don't.

Nothing wrong with what you stated, GF.
