I saw the Cats Pause today. Anyone that keeps up with 12th region basket has to wonder if they did there homework or did they just put teams down at random. I think your preseason picks are a little more accurate. And I agree that there are about 5 teams that could be the preseason pick as #1.
I don't think Dave puts a lot of effort into research for his poll. Pulaski Co (6-0) beat Southwestern (2-5) last friday by a score of 41-15 but SW is ranked 14th in 5A and PC is ranked 20th. PC also beat Mercer Co who is ranked 12th in 5A. No love for the Maroons. I am a Somerset fan, but you still have to give our cross town rivals thier props.
Keep us posted on Rose Hill this year. Sound like they are solid 6th-8th. If you hear about other teams in the northeast that are playing good Bball, let us know.
I look forward to hearing about the N. Ky teams.
Gover along with the rest of the Somerset Future AAU team go to Meece Middle. I will keep you up to date on there progress. This should be a great year for middle school basketball. I can't wait for it to begin.
Let me clarify myself. Pulaski Co. has always been known as the basketball school in the county. They have a great tradition and a state championship team. Over the past 5 years Somerset has developed a very good feeder program that started with the 8th grade class and spans down to the 5th grade. The Pulaski kids are far behind in the 8th grade thru the 5th grade. The coaching staff at Pulaski realized this and has made some changes to "keep up with Somerset."
I am looking forward to the Somerset vs Corbin match up. There is such a great history between these two teams. This was the biggest district rivalry when I played. I am glad to see they are back on the schedule this year.
I believe LSU will be down after the come from behind game with Florida.
Halftime score: UK 21 LSU 14
Final score: LSU 42 UK 24
I would love to see the upset. Prove me wrong. Go Cats!
There is no doubt that Pulaski Co. and Southwestern are in a very competitive district and Somerset is in a very weak district. Southwestern always has the toughest schedule, but Somerset does play a good non district schedule every year.
2006 non district opponents regular season:
Franklin Co 8-2, Southwestern 7-3, Warren East 9-1, and Danville 9-1
