Some stats: Senior QB Kaiya Sheron went out early in the 3rd quarter after a minor sprained ankle. For the time he was in, he threw for 133 yards, 2 passing TD’s and 1 rushing TD. Backup sophomore Josh Gross came in at QB and threw for 121 yards and 2 TD passes. Senior WR Kade Grundy caught 5 passes for 109 yards and rushed for 46 yards. Junior WR Gavin Stevens caught 4 passes for 64 yards and 2 TD’s. Junior RB Chase Doan rushed for 97 yards.

I agree. There are not many 3 sport athletes left in this day and age. He has the opportunity to be all-state in all 3 sports. Plus he committed to Louisville baseball in 8th grade, played on Team USA baseball, and has a chance to be the only player in the 2000 point club in basketball at SHS. Just one of those accomplishments is impressive, all is amazing!

Jamie Cromer holds the all time record. He graduated in 1990 and is a member of the SHS Hall of Fame. His son is Matt Cromer who is an outstanding senior at South Laurel. I will have to check the exact total Cromer has but it is approximately in the 1850ish range.

Big rivalry rematch between Somerset and Pulaski Co. Friday night. The Maroons travel across Hwy 80 with something to prove after their 20 point loss at home to Somerset 2 weeks ago. Somerset is looking for a better shooting performance than they showed this past Tuesday in their loss to N. Laurel. Should be a thriller! Kade Grundy moved into second place on the all time scoring list at Somerset last game surpassing his brother Kross. Kade currently has 1554 career points at Somerset.

Somerset looked good when the football players were not in the game. Moved the ball well and took an early 8 point lead. When the football players started coming in, the chemistry declined and there was more standing around instead of movement on the court. Missed lay-ups, and free throws added up. Very rusty as one would expect. Once all the excitement from their state victory starts to settle and they get into a basketball mindset, the Jumpers will be just fine. But it may take a few weeks.

Can't say I have ever witnessed an ending to a game quite like this weekend. So, put me down with the homer pick of Somerset's win over Mayfield for their first ever state football title.

Somerset plays Russell County tonight but will be without any of the football players. I'm guessing Somerset's game on Saturday vs Lincoln County will be canceled or rescheduled due to the Class 2A state football game at 1:00 Saturday. Next Tuesday will be the battle of 3A and 2A when Somerset travels to Boyle County. Not sure if the football players from either school will be playing that game but if they do, hopefully they won't all foul out before halftime lol.

Probably will not get much from Somerset to start the season. 4 of their starters are still on the football field. But, do expect the Jumpers to be a force once they get back in basketball form.
