1) Somerset (19-3) – The Briar Jumpers retake the top spot this week after a huge 72 – 52 win over Pulaski County and a hard earned victory over visiting Anderson County. Kade Grundy scored 42 points over the two games. This week they host North Laurel before facing off for the second time against the Maroons of Pulaski County, this time at home. They end the week against Martin County at Lafayette.

2) Lincoln County (17-6) – Lincoln County is 7 – 1 in their last 8 games, defeating McCreary County Central, Boyle County, and Christian County last week. Jaxon Smith went off for 23 against the Rebels of Boyle County. This week they face Southwestern and Garrard County.

3) East Jessamine (15 – 7) – It seems that no one has moved more up and down this year than the Jaguars and this week they find themselves all the way up at number 3. They went 2 – 1 for the week with a loss to Woodford followed up by a pair of impressive wins over district foe Mercer County and regional contender Pulaski County. Keegan Lockhart led the way against the Maroons with 17 points along with 7 rebounds. They have one game this week but it is a big one as they take the quick drive across Nicholasville to West Jessamine. Their previous matchup at East on January 17th resulted in a 61 – 57 Jaguar win.

4) Danville (15 – 7) – The Admirals fell to both Garrard and Marion County this week but bounced back with a win over Western Hills. This week features two rematches for Danville – a home contest against Garrard and a trip to Boyle County (where they previously won 70 – 60). A pair of wins here locks up the district number 1 seed.

5) Pulaski County (18 – 5) – Coach Fraley’s squad had a rough week, going 1 – 2 with a win over Rockcastle County but two losses at the hands of Somerset and East Jessamine. They are definitely still a regional contender, but their fall this week shows how truly wide open this region is. They host Mercer County before having to deal with the Briar Jumpers of Somerset yet again after just losing to them by 20 last week.

6) West Jessamine (13-9) – After hovering right around .500%, the Colts are on a four game winning streak which includes wins last week over Shelby County, Madison Southen, and Southwestern. They have two big tests this week as they face off against Boyle County and their city rival East Jessamine, the latter defeating them last month by 4.

7) Wayne County (15 – 9) – Wayne County had three wins this week, besting Knox Central, Southwestern, and Middlesboro. Thomas Spencer scored 72 points over that stretch. They have a lighter week (at Casey County, McCreary Central at home) before their schedule finishes with a brutal stretch against Somerset, West Jessamine, Boyle County, and Lexington Catholic.

8) Boyle County (8 – 9) – The Rebels fell twice this past week, first to Madison Southern and then to Lincoln County, both on the road. Though Luke Imfeld continues to be the leader in points at 15 per game, Grant Hotchkiss is second in both points and rebounds with 12.2 and 5.4, respectively. Boyle County faces West Jessamine and Danville this week.

9) Mercer County (13 – 10) – Mercer County defeated Burgin before dropping games to East Jessamine and Corbin. They face Pulaski County and Western Hills this week.

10) Southwestern (13 – 11) – The Warriors fell to Wayne County and West Jessamine this week. They play Lincoln County and Williamsburg this week. A win over Lincoln County would be a huge boost as Southwestern heads into the last few weeks of the season.

11) Garrard County (6-14) – It seems the Golden Lions we were expecting are here now that Brayden Sebastian is back to full health and all cylinders are clicking. Their 3 win week was highlighted by a 81 – 77 win over Danville, a game in which Sebastian scored 47.

12) McCreary County Central (8-14) – The Raiders fell to Lincoln County before defeating Lynn Camp. They have one game this week as they travel to Monticello to play the Wayne County Cardinals.

13) Rockcastle County (6-16) – The Rockets lost to Marion County, Model, and Pulaski County last week. They face Pineville and Berea this week.

14) Casey County (3-20) – Casey County defeated Danville Christian 64 – 57 this week before falling to Adair County and Russell County. They square off against Wayne County and Metcalfe County this week.

15) Danville Christian (11-8) – Danville Christian has established a pretty good record against the smallest set of schools across the state but have not yet taken that step to handle larger competition. They fall this week after losses to Casey County and Garrard County. They host the Warrior Classic this week with games against Walden, Christian Academy of Madison, Indiana, and June Buchanan.

16) Burgin (2 – 22) – The Bulldogs fell to Mercer County, Berea, St. Francis, and Frederick Fraize this week. They travel to Frankfort Christian before hosting Walden and Portland Christian this week.

17) Kentucky School for the Deaf (0-10) – The Colonels’ losing streak continues as they fell to the Wellspring Guardians and Frankfort Christian. They play Red Bird before hosting the KSD Homecoming Classic, their last significant chance for a win this season.

Somerset and N Laurel should be a dandy!

Danville still has to go to Lincoln so two wins this week does not lock up the #1 seed in the district tournament.

There is still a Feb 14th match between Ads and Pats. These teams have all improved over the last few weeks. Each team has the tools to compete in the 45th. Looking at the programs Lincoln should pull it off, but Ads have shown they can be beat and Garrard has shown the Ads are vulnerable when they dont play good. Dont forget Boyle they have lost a few games but are still talented enough to make a push. 45th is fun every year.

Southwestern is really struggling right now. One of their best players IMO plays 4-5 minutes a game. They could really give teams fits with their size if they'd play the guys at the same time. They can run a look with Jones at the 3, Sims at the 4, and Wood at the 5. But seems like only one is in at a time. Hope they get it figured out.

Ads take care of business riding huge game from Slone. Sebastian was held in check by McKinney’s Defensive plan. You can tell that Sebastian is Garrard’s main threat.

Sebastian was 8-16 from the Field and finished with 23 Pts. Not a bad off night. Danville played aggressive defense, and the game was called in a manner where handchecks and bumps on the perimeter were permitted. Aiden Sloan was terrific. Potentially, a RD 3 in a few weeks.

Ads are pretty good when the perimeter shots are falling. Interesting games tomorrow night Garrard @ Lincoln & Danville @ Boyle. It comes down to match ups and how coaches choose to manage strategies to affect the opponents tactical decisions. Several players in the 45th challenge coaches with plethora of skills. Should be some really good games.

Jamie Cromer holds the all time record. He graduated in 1990 and is a member of the SHS Hall of Fame. His son is Matt Cromer who is an outstanding senior at South Laurel. I will have to check the exact total Cromer has but it is approximately in the 1850ish range.

Somerset is one of a few teams that can win the 12th. I look for them to come out against Pulaski and get a win. Pulaski is solid should be a good game.

I agree. There are not many 3 sport athletes left in this day and age. He has the opportunity to be all-state in all 3 sports. Plus he committed to Louisville baseball in 8th grade, played on Team USA baseball, and has a chance to be the only player in the 2000 point club in basketball at SHS. Just one of those accomplishments is impressive, all is amazing!
