  1. Offering financial aid and no boundries is recruiting within itself. The process itself is recruiting. Most private supporters have agreed that recruiting students is the process. It's what makes them go. If you get just one athlete in the mix, it can make a difference. This is why in just a short time private schools can and do compete at the highest level. They recruit motivated and diciplined students, and some are athletes. I am not saying that this is bad or wrong or that they shouldn't do it. I just believe that the whole process makes for an unfair advantage. Public schools operate a different way and we should not have to change all publics and you should not have to change what your doing. We should be allowed to split. We voted to do so, overwhelmingly. We don't want to change ,you don't want to change, go to two different set of playoffs. Irreconcilable differences...what do you do?...go your seperate ways.
  2. Seperation is the ONLY answer. Discussion should read, "Us and Them." I have said it before, it will happen. There is no stopping it and cases like LCA only speed up the process. This is why we have 6 classes now. Preparing us for 4 public and 2 private down the road. Two different institutions and the private school process creates and unfair advantage within itself.
  3. That don't put money in my pocket, like it would for private school. As the saying goes "and If and Buts were candy......."
  4. It's not free when I want to go outside my zone. This is what folks seem to forget. Private has no zone and getting aid. I can't get it and if I can't afford it, I will be locked to a school.
  5. I don't care if it is 7, 16 or 1 athlete. It is wrong, it is cheating and it is what we have talked about from the beginnig with private schools. Give us the oppurtunity to bring just 1 athlete in like this. Never happen in the public school system. The process in itself creates an uneven playing field. Finanical assistance, no zoning, ect..... When was the last time a public school was found giving scholarships to athletes or anyone for that matter?
  6. Didn't anyone think that the most interesting part of the punishment was they have to pay the money back and if they don't they can't play. If they couldn't afford it in the first place, how will they pay it back?
  7. From what I understand he has already turned that job down.
  8. Yes you did, my bad. I believe that the funding will become an issue.
  9. Open enrollment within the county is not the same.
  10. I agree. Coaches today look to boosters and parents to do that for them. I still believe that they are involved in the sense that they will convey the needs of his/her team and others go from there. When this happens very hard to prove that a coach was behind it.
  11. Why was the Harlan Co. coaching thread locked? Was told last night Coach Hilton turned down the job at Harlan Co.? Maybe Coach Hilton can find a way to get Harlan Co. on Bells schedule, would be an interesting game.
  12. While this could be huge for football in this state and BC, it could also work against them. Joe Lee Dunn takes a job in Memphis this last year and things didn't go so well. Leaves after 1 year and the school left in worse shape. If Morris is just taking it until he can return to the college level and that happens to be 1 year, will this be the best thing for BC. Just an observation and I'm sure the folks in charge will address this.
  13. I see this everytime there is an opening, so.......I'll bite. Who is your guy?
  14. Just speculating about history repeating itself by Watusi. I know nothing of the past, but do know they are doing a pretty good job at LCC.
  15. I'll give it a shot. Coach Howard and young Ben back for another go around in Pikeville???
  16. If your questions get answered here the thread gets moved to the public-private debate. You can find your answer there.
  17. No problem, I may have misunderstood. I wish them the best of luck.
  18. None of the people talking about annexing or private schools are eligible to play high school football? HDE Guess what........they aren't supporting the new school either. I know that a lot of folks are behind this program. I wish this program well. Maybe we can get them on the schedule, others close to us shy from this.
  19. I'm sure that Harlan County will be fine. I was responding to those of you that said that next year you would be state champs and if not then, within the next two. Very high expectations. I don't know any coach that wants that kind of pressure. Maybe Big Mike is comming out of retirement.
  20. No need to take offense Black Bear. It is just a fact that because you are putting these schools together doesn't mean you will win a state championship or be the best high school in the state. In reality it means that you may have even more obstacles to overcome than many of the other schools. Coupled with the fact that the school will not be finished (athletic facilities) and a community that has fought this since the beginnig. (overwhelming community support) it will be a lot harder to obtain the success that most on this site are expecting. I do not disagree with the fact you will have a great school and the opportunity for a really fine football team and wish you the best of luck. I also agree that Coach Salyor will do a great job in hiring a coach. So, best of luck, and be careful not to put that kind of pressure on the new guy, whoever he may be.
  21. You only have one year in 3A. Belfry and Breathitt are loaded next year. Then comes 5A and that's not going to happen as long as Highlands and Cov.Cath. are in your region or on the East side of things. 1 of every 10-15 years will you have that type of talent. No field , no practice facility at the school. Alot to overcome, not to mention the community. With all the opposition to this school in the first place. Some areas wanting to annex itself and some wanting to start a private school. Alot of work to be done.
  22. Make a note so you can pull this up next year..........Breathitt or Belfry will end the Black Bears season next year. After that 5A Highlands or Cov. Cath. ect........will end it. 1 in every 10 years they will have a team that is truely better than Northern Ky. 2 of the 10 years they may beat them if they are lucky. I agree that they may have a better team than Letcher County Central, but the same outcome.
  23. Jones, with the game still in question, in the 4th quarter, wanted to officiate instead of coaching. 1:05 left called a time out and never spoke to his team during the time out. No instructions. Just hounded the officials. This happened most of the second half when they fell behind. He seems to want to blame the refs instead of coaching them out of situations. Middlesboro has wasted alot of talent in their athletic programs over the past few years.
