10th region does not give out a "All Tournament Team". Instead they have a All Region team, that is selected before the regional tourney is played.

GRC will be a tough out at Rupp with how they defend and spread the floor on offense. They have what teams must have in March- they have guards. Bopper Stenzel is by far the most versatile point guard I have seen all year. He can control the game and knows when to drive it, pull up and shoot it, hit the open man and it never hurts to have a post player to dump it down to. The only weakness that might affect the Cards next week is if they have to go to their bench. The good part of that is they drew in the top bracket and will have a day off should they win their opener. You can be creative in how you supbstitute with a 7 man rotation. Congrats to GRC.

Congratulations to Clark County - they were clearly the best team in the 10th this year!

As I've stated previously Coach Humphrey seemed to think his team had as good a chance to win the 10th as any when I talked to him before the first game of the season.

On a side note to a great game, I was disappointed when the police riot line corraled the student section of GRC. It was sad to see these kids who have followed this team all year get locked down when it was time to celebrate. Just wonder if the host team had won if this was in the plans as well! Not sure why this was done.

Congrats also to Mason County on reaching the regional finals. I know that Montgomery was probably the pre-season favorite; Pendleton was a "sexy pick" based on their performance last year; McGovney was probably the best player in the 37th, etc. But when all was said and done, the perennial powers were there at the end.

MOUNT¿STERLING — George Rogers Clark is going back to Rupp Arena.

The Cardinals captured their second straight 10th Region championship with a 61-39 rout of Mason County Tuesday night at the MCHS Arena, giving Clark its third title in six years.

 

During the next 24 hours, Clark will celebrate the two-peat, an accomplishment that many didn’t expect after the Cards lost most of their entire starting cast from last year’s squad.

 

Clark coach Scott Humphrey said his current flock of Cardinals were deserving of the feat.

“I know it’s kind of cliche, but this bunch has worked for four years, knowing that they only had one shot (at winning the region),” the Clark coach said afterward. “Playing time just wasn’t there in the past and I’m just thrilled to death for them.”

 

“Bopper played like the (region) player of the year and the competitor that he is,” Humphrey said. “He’s a winner and what more can you say? He loves the big moment.”

Just like the previous two region contests, Clark used its defense to fuel the offense and created 17 turnovers, scoring 21 points of the miscues by the Royals.

 

“It feels amazing because everybody doubted us at the beginning of the year,” Stenzel said. “I knew we could come back and win (the region) again, because we have heart. That’s what’s gotten us to where we are right now.”

I thought a double line of police was a bit heavy handed. It even got a bit chippy there for a couple of seconds when the first wave of students met the police line. After the students were turned back I saw one officer give a two handed shove into the back of one kid to push the line back. It settled down quickly when the GRC staff got there. I doubt it would have been the same had Montgomery won.

If is game was at home we had them, The Fieldhouse is good for a least 22 points!!!! :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Congrats to the Cardinals, there were and are the best team. Bopper handled Mason both time we played. Mason struggled with shooting all year and it really showed last night with very good in you face defense. Good luck in the Sweet 16. I was directly acrose from the police line and I too thought it was a bit too much. That would have necer happed at the Fieldhouse. Not blowing my horn for the Fieldhouse but anyone aat anutime can go on the floor for the celebration.
