So Long Deming.

I can remember not all that many years ago when Deming had one of the most formidable high-school debate teams in the Commonwealth.

Deming has not played their final game just yet. At the earliest they could be in the new school by January 2013. Until they physically move into the new school the uniforms will say Deming. Once the move is made they will then be Robertson County. Only fitting they play as Deming until the move is made. I for one am glad it will be called Robertson County.

As for the gym. The estimate given to me is it will seat between 1200-1400. Pretty nice design. Will be a nice site for All "A" Region and possible District tournaments. However, don't believe it will be large enough to host region as posted in another thread.

Very happy for the people of Robertson as this will be an asset for the entire community.

So this would leave just Sheldon Clark as the only one-high-school county school without the county name in it, right? (Hope that last sentence makes sense, but there apparently is not a less-clunky way to say what I was trying to say.)

There's also Ballard Memorial and at least a couple of schools that use "Central" instead of "County." (Livingston and McCreary come to mind.)

Yeah, but those have the actual county name as part of the school name. Not so with Deming and Sheldon Clark.

My mistake. It's late, and I misunderstood.

^ I was thinking it was named after the family who donated the land where the current school sits, but I could be wrong.

Here's an aerial picture of the new school construction. Not sure how recent this picture is.

RP - you are correct. Scary, isn't it?

Anyone have pictures of their current gym? I've never been there, but have heard that it's pretty cool.

I didn't think it would. I had previously heard from someone close to the Deming program that it would be "big enough to host all regional activiities."

Where does the "Deming" part come from?
It comes from a judge from Robertson County his family gave the land for Deming School, Mr. John Deming.

Of course traffic was a topic of discussion while back, They have dicussed putting in a turning lane and widening of the road on US 62 and 616 South(Mt. Pleasant Road).

About 15 years ago our high school played them in an invitational tournament at Oneida Baptist Institute, and they had ROBERTSON COUNTY letters on the front of their uniforms. I don't know if that was just for that particular year or not, but their uniforms didn't say DEMING, not that year anyway. I remember asking someone if they had changed the name of the school, and they said no.

I've heard this but I believe they were from Tennesse. We were called Mt.Olivet/Deming at one time in the 90's.

At one time plans were to use the Old Gym for 7&8 grade Bball and girls teams, but plans could've changed since then. I'm sure the girls team wants a chance to play in the old gym.
