Sometimes the almighty intervenes to put perspective on all the small things of life. South Kenton County has been devastated by one or more tornados that touched down today. Entire homes have been lost. Have not yet heard about loss of life. Law enforcement is not allowing any traffic in the area so we cannot check on families. Power is out. High school athletes may have been impacted. Prayers are needed. My apologies to the moderators for what is likely improper content.

ColdHard-you are crazy. I guarantee I have seen SK play in the last 20 years more than you have and they have had 2 good seasons. Period. Anyone can recognize the greatness of Trinity. I find it more ironic when people say how great SK is when that has not been the case at all. A few very good players here and there and that is it. Nothing to show for it except one trip to the state finals where they were shutout.

 

I don't think it is Coach Marksberry's fault at all. I do think the fans in Independence have unrealistic expectations for a club that is generally mediocre. Winning the South Kenton leagues in pee wee doesn't mean you are gonna be state champs in a relatively poor football state (Kentucky). Sorry to burst the bubble, but news flash, the Pioneers are the Pioneers and they aren't gonna be state champs in 6A 2012 either. They wouldn't win the state crown in 5A or 4A either. Last year they lost to Beechwood, a 1A school that was bounced from the playoffs in the semifinals. That team then lost in the state championship the next week. SK has a looooong way to go.

Congrats to him on winning this award, however Im sure that the committee who selected him didn't ask his former players how dedicated they thought he was to them. Im just saying. Ive only been to one SK game in my life, I don't plan on going to any in the near future, thus I dont have any 1st hand info to talk about. However, hearing many of his former players not speak highly of him speaks volumes to me. Markesberry had loads of talent and those teams shouldve been successful. He wasn't successful enough with that much talent, imo, and he will not get alot of credit from me

 

Just Curious where is all of this talent playing now? I always here this aboout Simon Kenton's State runner up team but other than Miles at UK, Hansel at Ball St. and Lawrence at a division 3 school where did this enormous group of talent go? I am pretty sure that X team they played had more than 2 division 1 players on it. I am really curious as I don't know if there are any others out there that are playing now. To me this was a good High School team with a nice nucleus but by no means a juggernaught that should have run rough shod on the remainder of the state.

History and I have probably never agreed on a thing on BGP, but I will defend the fact that he is (to the best of my knowledge) not connected to the Trinity program in any way.

I don't have a dog in it either, but you did say you were suprised when I said earlier in the thread that SK, Boone and Ryle combined couldn't have won the state crown that year. Ignorance means to not know something. I knew then and now that SK won't win a football championship. You simply say I am ignorant. Hope it makes you feel good.

Sorry I didn't like the way this came out. The gentlemen listed above are part of the best group of classes in SK football history and every time I hear their record season talked about it is how if there would have been something done different they would have accomplished more. This group not only made the deepest run in the state tourney in SK history, I believe it is the deepest for any NKY team in the large school state. These guys need to be praised for their accomplishments by their community not tore apart because, if things would have been done different they would have accomplished what they should have done. I am from a catholic highschool and my son and I will decide whether he goes the catholic route or if he attends the public school. One of the biggest draws of playing sports at a public school is playing for the very community you live in, but if this is the support these boys get I am not sure it is worth it. By the way I had no kids on this team and other than living in the community they played in, I do not have a dog in this fight. Last thing when I see 80+ kids on the sidlines for football games I think the program is in pretty good shape and should be supported instead of ripped apart by it's very own community.
