Many things are being tossed around on this thread and I think it would give someone who wasnt there the wrong impression of the game and the players. Unless I am totally blind (20/20 last time I checked) I saw no "bad blood" between the teams or any players. Hard fought, although at times ugly, basketball. I thought all played hard. I think this was sort of a coming out party for Bray for most people and he absolutely impressed. As I have mentioned earlier, he did no woofing, taunting, or anything after a specatacular dunk (nice job on the photo) and after draining a Huge three. No "3" signs, no looking at the HHS bench, nothing. As for any so called threats or whatever, Towles and Bray shook hands and hugged in the line with no issue. Must not have been anything serious. I probably wouldnt take the word of a 17 year old minutes after a loss. Again, I saw nothing. Now, Bray did take his sweet time every time he was injured. Was he hammered, yes. I mean, my Lord, give him a break. He, nor his team did not commit the intentional foul. Sounds like a few people on the thread a little too close to HHS and can't see the forest from the tree's.

Actually I believe Bray's ailment was legit at that instance. He had a pretty nasty looking cramp in his calf.

 

His cramp at the end was crazy looking. He rolled right up against my leg and I had a great view of the knot in his leg. He also had a very battered upper lip. You can also see that in one of the free throw pictures near the end.

I didn't realize until after my previous post asking about the subbing for him that a trainer had come onto the floor.

 

At that point the coach has two options: replace him for the FTs with someone from the bench OR call a timeout to give Bray time to get ready to back on the floor and then shoot the FTs.

 

Did Coach Key have any TOs left?

 

Really happy for the kid who was put in a tough situation to hit the 2nd FTs.

 

 

The trainer never stepped on the court but did assist Tyler under the basket but out of bounds. The coach asked if he had to replace Bray since she didn't really come onto the court and the ref said yes. Bray did not want to come out.

I found it interesting that when Bray was unable to shoot the FTs after the intentional foul, that Lloyd coach puts a kid on the line that I don't think had seen the floor at all. Airballed the 1st, but give the kid credit, he hit the 2nd.

 

Kind of takes it to a high level of the old adage, "always be prepared" when the coach comes down the bench and calls your number.

I was wondering the same thing. I am trying to remember but not only did Key not call TO, he didn't put Bray back in as soon as the free throws were shot. Is he allowed to sub Bray in after the free throws or does time have to run off the clock?

I also wondered why the trainer came out when she did. She waited till Bray got up. Then as he is starting to walk around and looks to be ok, she comes out.

He was getting abused all night...he carried himself better than any kid i have ever seen at the high school level...even tempered for having such great talent amd knowing no one on the court could stop him...

 

To the bolded. Then, you have got to get out and see more high school games, because that's absurd.

 

The kid averaged nine points a game playing a relatively soft schedule. He's been stopped plenty.

Very glad someone brought that up, I was thinking the same thing. Another play that was very interesting was the play where Lloyd had the ball under their goal with about 12 seconds left up 4. They ran a set and a player slipped to the rim wide open, rather than take the layup he held it and got fouled. One and one he misses the front end, Highlands goes down and scores, Lloyd up 2 with 4 seconds left (or so). Rather than Lloyd up 4 or even 6 (its a big difference when you have to take the ball out of bounds on a made goal), they are only up 2. Could have been a huge play, but it all worked out for Lloyd.

Coach Lutz, he is a good guy, been very dedicated to that program for a VERY long time.
