In a battle of the region’s top-ranked boys’ basketball teams, Nathan Dieudonne delivered a fourth-quarter performance worthy of his Seventh Region Player of the Year title.

Dieudonne posted 12 points and six rebounds in the final eight minutes and helped Trinity High School rally from a 12-point deficit to beat Ballard 58-55 in a semifinal of the Class Act Seventh Region Tournament.

 

 

Dieudonne, a Boston University signee, finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds after struggling for three quarters.

 

 

Charles Foster added 14 points and Darryl Hicks had 10 for the Shamrocks, who were outshot and outrebounded but committed just four turnovers.

 

 

Quentin Snider (16 points), Kelan Martin (14 points, six rebounds) and Lavonne Holland (13 points, six rebounds) led No. 4 Ballard (24-9), which led 47-35 after a Snider 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter.

No. 1 Trinity 58, No. 5 Ballard 55 (7th): Trinity came from behind to beat Ballard in the semifinals and will face No. 13 St. Xavier in the finals Monday. St. Xavier beat Central 70-59 earlier.

Nathan Dieudonne had a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Shamrocks, who are 1-4 in region finals.

Trinity, now 30-3 (27-1 against Kentucky schools), trailed by 12 points with 7:48 remaining before a 10-1 run brought the Shamrocks close. Trinity, which has now won 13 in a row, took the lead on a basket by a Dieudonne and his free throws clinched the victory in the final seconds.

This was a classic. Ballard threw everything at Trinity but the kitchen sink. I really believe the turning point was when the Ballard students started chanting stick to football. It ticked the Rocks off.

 

That's pretty sad, if that's what they needed to get amped for that game. WOW!!

Trinity's starters got some nice minutes on the bench during the third. They were well rested heading into the final quarter. Szabo had a game plan and followed through, keeping Diudonne on the bench despite Trinity being down; after getting a breather, he came up big on offense and defense down the stretch.

 

The atmosphere was incredible with the students from St. X sticking around after their game to add to the cheers and chants coming from the Ballard students. Who says the publics and privates can't get along? Was actually worried at the outset that some of the chanting might get out of hand, but it was pretty civil following tip-off.

 

Those two guards for Ballard can flat-out play. It's nice when a game absolutely lives up to its billing and this one was everything expected and more. Fantastic stuff.

 

That makes it double sweet.

Wish I could have seen this game.

I thought the, "Mortgage chant" when the Shelbyville kid was shooting free throws was amusing coming from Ballard fan base.

I sat behind Trinity bench and was impressed by the "look test". When Szabo came to Trinity I vividly remember him saying "With these 1,200 boys we should be better.." Well Trinity is now very good but some things are very different and it won't help us win a private/public debate.

Aaron Murray for Ballard has some long arms. I understand he is a pretty darn good player.

They look like just what they are, Trinity students. That's enough to make any young man very proud.

Heck of a game. One of the best HS games I have ever witnessed. Several times thought T was finished. Looked very very bleak. thought it would take our best game to beat B - it wasn't - but still turned out to be enough. What a credit to them, the team, coaches..managers.

 

GEt a kick out of the B crowd yelling about '$$$$$"..."privates",,, "Daddy pays"..etc. How ironic - since they go to school for free and moreover - the working T faithful --PAY FOR B'S SCHOOLING.

It is really funny since my guess is that there is at least as much money at Ballard as there is at Trinity. Oh well, it gives their football team time to start getting ready for the Trinity game next season. Oh wait, they won't play us in that sport either.
