EconomicPolicyJournal.com: Will Rand Paul Become Mitt Romney's Running Mate?

Now, a Kentucky media outlet, WFPL News, might be offering us a clue:

Kentucky’s junior senator says it would be an honor to be considered as a possible running mate for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

… After a speech in Louisville today, [sen. Rand] Paul held that door firmly open, saying he wants to be part of the national debate.

… “I don’t know if I can answer that question, but I can say it would be an honor to be considered,” he said.

Mitt Romney needs the Tea Party voters, Rand Paul could deliver them

For me...this is akin to putting McCain putting Palin on the ballot.

Spot on rockmom. This is where Presidential candidates blow it. They look for someone different than them because they think it will win them votes. No one, I repeat, NO ONE votes for a candidate because of who their VP pick is. But a lot of people will not vote for a candidate if they don't like the VP choice. If Romney wins the election in the fall, it will not be because of right wing voters. He has to appeal to the middle and anything he does that moves away from the middle hurts his chances at winning. Maybe he is spinning this now to try and win primary votes and show right wing primary voters he is conservative thinking. But if he follows through with this, it hurts his chances at beating Obama.

Lord help us if we have Romney/Paul running the show.

I thought that same exact thing. That would be the nail in the coffin for my possibility of voting for Romney.

There's been a lot of speculation that Ron Paul has kept his guns on Santorum and Gingrich in order to gain influence with an eventual Romney nominee. A lot of people think he wants a primetime speech at the convention and others speculate it's a way to get Rand Paul on the radar. Most of this stuff has been nothing better than speculation based on Ron Paul's campaign commercials and debate performances. But, it's interesting that Rand Paul acknowledged an interest in being a VP nod.

So putting Rubio on the ballot wouldn't help garnish the latino vote?

Rand Paul would be an excellent choice for VP. Even better for President.

Lord help us if we have Romney/Paul running the show.

Yeah, Lord help us if we actually have people in the White House that don't spend...spend...and spend.

Lord help us if we have Romney/Paul running the show.

Says the guy who supports Newt Gingrich, a guy who can't even remain faithful to his wife. Yeah Newt's a guy that we can trust.

Rand Paul as Romney's running mate is money in the bank for the Obama campaign. I hope it happens for the hilarity of the campaign.

He'd be the only man with any integrity in the race.

Yes...I need Rand Paul as Romney's running mate. Please.

That is why you should never say there are no exceptions as I did in my post. :D Yes, I believe Rubio would help bring in Latino votes. You got me on that one. And Palin was a good choice in the sense that a woman will help get female votes. The caveat always being that the choice must be someone who won't put their foot in their mouth. The problem with Rand Paul is he will would be a net loss in votes in a national general election. Those people who like him are going to vote Republican no matter what. But Paul will lose votes for Romney with the moderate voters where the election is won. Second, there is a high risk factor with Rand Paul that he would get "Palined" by the media and that would not be good for Romney.
