That is why you should never say there are no exceptions as I did in my post. Yes, I believe Rubio would help bring in Latino votes. You got me on that one. And Palin was a good choice in the sense that a woman will help get female votes. The caveat always being that the choice must be someone who won't put their foot in their mouth. The problem with Rand Paul is he will would be a net loss in votes in a national general election. Those people who like him are going to vote Republican no matter what. But Paul will lose votes for Romney with the moderate voters where the election is won. Second, there is a high risk factor with Rand Paul that he would get "Palined" by the media and that would not be good for Romney.

 

He would get "Palined" beyond belief and I would laugh at the comedic skits made about Rand Paul much like I did with Palin. My sense of humor needs this ticket. :lol:

Very rarely will the VP help get votes. If anything, Palin for example, it probably hurts. Rubio could be an exception. Maybe.

 

I've never based a vote on the VP. Never even came up once in my decision.

 

I'd want "vanilla" with some good experience. Rand Paul would not fit that description.

Rand would do MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better in debates with Biden than Palin did, actually, he is witty enough that he may be able to outshine Biden. Paul will also help shore up the more conservative vote than Palin could. While his views are further than many are comfortable with, his personablity and wit will be much better at selling the campaign than Palin.

So putting Rubio on the ballot wouldn't help garnish the latino vote?

 

Generally I would say that your VP generally won't garner you many votes but I will agree with you on this exception when dealing with a growing nationality such as the hispanic vote.

For those of you saying that the VP doesn't matter, for the most part I agree. However the candidates always seem to think it does and they all make a big deal out of having athe better VP candidate. I don't think Paul would help at this point, SNL would begin having weekly Aqua Buddha skits and kill him to the the uninformed who base their opinions on skits and one liners from pundits on both sides.

Rand Paul, though, is pandering. Romney is pandering for the hard right voters. He may fare better than Palin, but his main detraction will be his extremely right views. Romney is struggling already with both the far right and far left....disenfranchising the moderates will not help him at all. That was the crux of my issue with Palin...even before she showed her inexperience and (IMO) lack of knowledge. McCain made a blatant attempt at wooing the female voter by assuming she would fit the bill because she was a "hockey mom", attractive and popular.

From what I have gathered at this point Biden seems to be the choice to remain on as VP. I just ordered my Obama 2012 bumper sticker and it has Biden on there.

Actually, Biden is NOT by "most accounts" an idiot. He's actually well respected by his peers.

Hilary has already said no to the VP idea.

Well, it's kind of double edged sword. If Biden is not an idiot, as judged by his idiot peers, does it make anyone feel any better that Rand Paul might be well-regarded by his peers? :lol:

He really isn't a moron at all. And although I disagree with a lot of those in DC, I don't think most are idiots...just bull headed and self-serving. Total difference. For instance, I don't think Mitch McConnell is an idiot, but I think he's obstructionist to the nth degree.
