April 2, 201214 yr Not to do anything crazy like get back on topic, but Mrs GT and I went for lunch today and it was excellent. It's a bit on the pricy side, but the portions were huge and the food was great...
April 2, 201214 yr Thanks GT. I wanted to hear more about Moerlien House when I stopped by the thread, and instead just waded through 50 something posts about a place in Newport and a coupon. Really? I thought BGP nation was better than that. The horse is dead. This site makes PM's available, and most of you probably follow each other on Twitter anyway, so have at it. You've polluted this thread enough. Maybe someone can tell me more about the Moerlein place????
April 2, 201214 yr Went there a few weeks ago on a Friday night. Loved it. Got there about 5:30pm. It was already packed. Luckily I was meeting friends who already had a table in the bar, otherwise would have been waiting. Only had appetizers so can't really comment on the dinner menu or the inside restaurant. They had a bag pipe guy walking around playing and a band outside under a tent. I will definitely go back.
April 2, 201214 yr The novelty of the newness hasn't worn off on the HofbrauHaus. The Oldenburg example is an interesting one, but I think their problem was location for one, and the fact that they were about 15-20 years too early on their business model. Microbrews weren't really a big deal then. I would bet that it would succeed now (assuming it was in a different location more friendly to foot traffic, like MainStrasse). I loved Oldenburg. Had many a good time there. Especially liked the outdoor bar. And, I was in short walking distance from the place back then so no drinking/driving worries.

April 4, 201214 yr Went there a few weeks ago. Very crowded and noisy, but I expected that so not a problem for me. Food was pricey and was ok, I've had better for less. Beer was good, just not Hofbrau good.
April 6, 201214 yr I've been to the Lager House twice. The first time was a GREAT experience. It was a long wait for a table (it was probably the 2nd week it was open). We sat outside on the little patio area, had a few beers and waited for our table. The food was great and the service was good. The second time we went we actually sat & ate outside on the patio area. The service was terrible and our food was cold. Needless to say, I was disappointed but I will definitely go back. As a whole, the wait staff is solid - it was just this one particular waiter who literally spent 80% of the time on the computer.
April 6, 201214 yr I've been at the new lager house twice now. It is VERY expensive, not to mention the 8 bucks to park your car. They were really busy when I did lunch there on a Friday, the Sunday night I went there was just OK. Service has been great. I'm not a micro brew type of guy so I ordered one of those milky beers which they were out of (I guess they underestimated those of us who go there for the view, atmosphere and friends). I'll go back, but not on the top of my have to be there list. I do love how the banks is finally developing. Plenty of options now and good for the city. I had a few friends that went there yesterday just to watch the game.

I had a few friends that went there yesterday just to watch the game. Beers are $6-$7. They're pricy, but not overpriced. The food is pretty good. Although it's expensive, it's not overpriced. You get good portions and it's in the $10 - $15 range for an entree & side.
April 7, 201214 yr Probably going to try to stop down after the Reds game tonight....Although, it'll probably be packed. Have heard good things though.

If you are looking for something different to sip on try the Prima Pils (must like hoppy beers) brewed by Victory or the Milk Stout (must like coffee) brewed by Left Hand. They also have Kentucky Ale's Bourbon Barrel on tap. If you are an MBC (Miller, Bud, Coors) guy then there is really no reason to go unless you are looking for a long wait and want to try the food (just about everything has a spicy taste to it even the ketchup), which is OK. Have fun and go Redlegs!
April 11, 201214 yr Went last night before the game. Good food. I had a BBQ burger. Buddy ordered the Moer burger, that was interesting. Beer wise, I had India Pale Ale, and an OTR. Tried a sip of Ky Bourbon Ale that someone else ordered, didn't care for that. With three of us there, we had two meals and a total of 6 beers. 67 bucks. Not too bad. I liked the place.

April 11, 201214 yr Valet was 20 bucks last night. Same price when I was there! I drove around the block and parked it myself. I guess I am a tight wad!
