Moerlein Lager House

Featured Replies

The novelty of the newness hasn't worn off on the HofbrauHaus.

The Oldenburg example is an interesting one, but I think their problem was location for one, and the fact that they were about 15-20 years too early on their business model. Microbrews weren't really a big deal then. I would bet that it would succeed now (assuming it was in a different location more friendly to foot traffic, like MainStrasse).

Disagree on the Hofbra Jim. When they started offering the Groupon like half price deals, that is usually a sign that they need to entice customers and need cash flow. I know lots of people who cannot stand their beer.

And yet the place has a line out the door every single weekend. Hofbra is one of my firm's clients. They are definitely not seeing any decline in business, I can assure you of that.

Personally, I don't see an issue with having people getting what THEY want, not want the establishment wants them to.

It would seem that if you were only interested in cheap domestic beer the Moerlein Lager House would not be your destination of choice. So, why would they want to cater to the people who don't want to be there?

At any rate, I think Jim's right on the microbrew thing. People are also starting to realize that there are more beers out there than the Buds and Millers and that this is a good thing. Hofbrau is a godsend.

Sounds like we need a BGP outing at the Moerlein Lager House in the near future.

I remember seeing that thread the day after...:madman: I work maybe 5 minutes from there and would've definitely stopped down.

Maybe they were just trying to reach outside of their core customers? :idunno:

Granted, I don't go frequently — only a couple-three times a year when I can make it up that way — but every time I do they're always busy at peak hours, and at off-peak hours it's never totally dead.

Hofbra is packed every single Friday and Saturday night. They are doing just fine.

I agree with RE. Anytime you throw a 50% off coupon you're either new and trying to draw customers or business isn't as good as you hoped and are trying to get people to come back. There's no other reason to offer a Groupon.

What did the coupon provide 50% off of? From my understanding, they've always wanted to see better business on the "restaurant" end of things. Was it 50% off food, 50% off of a lunch bill, 50% off before 9:00pm, or just plain old 50% off?
