Player Must Sit Out a Play For Losing Helmet

Featured Replies

Does Clyde know anything about football? This one seems like pretty common sense.

I wasn't talking about a helmet that pops off. I was wondering if there was a relationship between a helmet not fitting properly and concussions. If I'm the only one that didn't see the relationship then I'll take the shot you threw my way.

One thing that is not being discussed is the role of new types of helmets in this phenomenon. The Revolution style helmets put a lot more pressure on the chinstrap as a support - therefore, they pop off more often.

Other rule changes:

1. Legal Reception - players much make catch and touch down in bounds, regardless of contact.

2. Approval of on-field corporate advertising.

3. Limits on below-the-waist blocks.

4. Prohibiting the kicking team from blocking until the ball has broken the plane of the receiving team's line.

So, according to rule 4, when a team kicks an onside kick, the receiving team can go get the ball before it travels 10 yards without being hit by kicking team? I'm assuming 'the plane of receiving team's line' to be 10 yards.

Secondly, what was changed about below-the-waist blocks?

At a game I was scouting I saw a kid take his helmet off to try to catch a pass, I had never seen that before. He threw it off like he was a Catcher trying to catch a pop fly behind the plate.

Wow, that's is probably the funniest visual I've ever imagined. :thumb:

How does a loose helmet tie into concussions?

I fixed it...:D

I'm not 100% sure on the interpretation because the article did not go into it, but I would assume if a receiving team player moved into the 10 yard area to recover the ball then the kicking team player would have the ability to recover the ball as well even if contact took place.

I don't know about the what changed about the below the wait blocking.

A loose helmet also leads to broken noses when the helmet slides down.

I only saw one helmet come off this year. 2 or 3 times in one game and it was the same player. I would throw that to not being properly worn. My son wore a revo all year and had no issues.

I've watched high school, middle school and NKYFL games where teams wore revo's and cant' remember any helmets coming off.

I've seen alot more revos and speeds come off over the last few years than any of the older VSR's. I think some has to do with improper fitting of chin straps.

If everyone is so up in arms about concussions, then Good. I lost track of how many helmets came off due to non-direct contact this year. Players these days loosen thier chin straps so thier helmets fly off when they get hit, so they look cool.

This is a silly statement. Think about what you are saying here, I cant even fathom loosening my chinstrap so it will fall intentionally.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Who in the world would be dumb enough to do that?

Apparently the same kid(s) that Impartial claims to loosen their chinstraps so their helmets can fly off. That's what I call non-believable Impartial.
