Voice of Reason
What teams in N. Ky. have underachieved this year? I see three teams that I think should definitely have better records than what they have. 1. Ryle - I don't know what went wrong in Union this year but when was the last time a Ryle team won less than 10 games in a season? Too much talent and tradition in this basketball program to be at 5 wins regardless of the schedule. 2. Beechwood - With the tougher schedule and a new coach, no one expected a 15 win season. But Beechwood has one of the biggest teams in the region and the big guys have some talent, a point guard capable of beating presses by himself and a capable outside shooting threat in Estrella. To be at 6 wins with a number of embarrassing losses is definitely not what anyone should have expected out of this team this season. 3. Lloyd - This one might surprise some people with Lloyd's record at just under .500. But in the times I have seen Lloyd, I see a team with enough basketball player talent to be a threat to win the region. They have a lot of depth, excellent quickness and perhaps the most physically talented player in the region in Bray. That 2 point loss to Dixie a couple weeks back was not a fluke IMO. Lloyd has the talent to beat any team in the region and are 4-5 wins below where they should be IMO. Comments? Any other teams you think have underachieved? Clyde
I'll partially agree with Ryle only because of the number of wins. I thought it would be a rough year as they lost a lot from last year. BW - you know from my past posts I didn't think they had a lot of true basketball talent coming back and they lost their go-to guy. I've enjoyed the season simply because so many teams are close in talent.
Old School
Was talking with another fan at the Walton/ Rule game last night, how is these 6A schools do not have more basketball talent? Walton an A school had the 3 most talented kids on the floor, maybe 4coming the way Helton is playing and 3 of them are sophs. I know Walton for instance has a great elementary program which I think has developed some tremendous talent on both boys and girls team for a small school. Think the same can be said for other A schools like NCC, Brossart, Owen, &u Gallatin. Just amazes me these bigger schools can't pull more talent out of such a larger student population. Is alot of potential basketball talent lost to the football programs at these schools?
Clyde
Is alot of potential basketball talent lost to the football programs at these schools? As a rule NKY is a football area first and foremost. I remember when I first met Coach Booher and he commented on that.

How many of the bball players that are doing well football players too. For HC none of the starters play football. Just a thought. Qryche11
Highlands at 7-15 certainly isnt achieving to their potential. With two 6'6 kids on the roster with one being 245lbs as well as a lot of athleticism it is becoming tough to watch them continue to lose games they shouldnt. I will say this about the Lloyd Juggs, they have some outstanding athletes and some deadeye 3 pt shooters. That Bray kid is the best leaper I have seen in NKY this year and that goes for watching Rice. He is a shot blocker and a Dunker who plays way taller than he is. Niko Carter is exceptionally quick and they have a couple kids that dont look like basketball players but they fill it up from behind the arc. They lack a big thick kid in the middle to allow Bray the ability to roam but they have talent in all other positions.
jbrune20
I just know from first hand experience that there is more talents in the hallways at some of these schools bc they don't like discipline or work enough to keep their grades up
CovCathiRadio
For the record, I'm not a fan of a thread designed to accentuate kids and coaches not living up to what we perceived them to be. Most are busting their humps preparing for games. Who the heck are we to say who is underachieving and why?

Most are busting their humps preparing for games. Who the heck are we to say who is underachieving and why? Very fair post. I have been debating starting this thread for a week. Having been a player and a coach, I hear your point. You can always say if you could do better, then try it. And very often there are things happening behind the scenes that only those that are part of the team know. But on the other hand, there is criticism after every game by the players, coaches and fans. That is how you learn and get better. My big fear in starting the thread was that it could take an ugly turn. That hasn't happened yet and I hope it stays that way. Beyond that, we see criticism and opinion in virtually every thread on this site. That is why I went ahead with it.
LCDAWGS19
If were counting it as NKY, I'd add Pendleton Co. to this list. Many people (myself included) had this as the team to beat in the 10th. I still feel they will contend come tourney time, but they have had some disappointing losses. I hadn't noticed the downturn Pendleton Co. has taken. They are 4-7 in their last 11 and two of those wins are against 9 win Deming and 6 win Sayre. It's simply a team void of a ball handler. With that being said they'll probably win the district.

Birds had em on the ropes at NCC and lost by 3 but this team is hurting and needs to get things right before they play Dayton. They aré reeling IMO and they need a strong week.
