Walton won the game that mattered. I could only imagine how hard it would of been for Walton to go on the road and try to get up for a game that honestly means nothing to them. On the other hand ncc wanted revenge but really it's not revenge Walton has the trophy ncc has a regular season win. Not really shocked.

 

My point exactly. Why play the game and suffer an embarrassing loss if the coaches and players had this mindset? A Top 15 team in the state should never have this mindset. All games are important. Why cancel a home game against a quality 8th Region opponent and play a non-region opponent who you just played 3 days ago? Doesn't make sense to me. I don't see how anything good can be gotten from this beating. Hopefully Walton can and will rebound from this but honestly it could have been prevented.

I am not at all surprised that NCC won, but I am shocked at the margin. Sounds like Walton Verona wasn't emotionally into this one and that's a shame. The margin really skews the perception of the relative strengths of the two.

 

I've seen both from an opponents standpoint and, if asked to pick the stronger, based on what I saw and when ("when" is VERY important because teams, especially girls teams, can be very different game to game) I would have gone with WV. That said, I know how Ronnie Dawn can learn from a game and prepare his team so differently next time around. He is absolutely a master at that.

 

But I wouldn't put too much stock in the game from either teams' standpoint. It is a single game, one that saw one team really ready to play and the other.........obviously (I think) not so ready. Both should now move on and continue to prepare for the post-season. As PaNDA says, look out 9th region teams, here come's Ronnie Dawn's bunch again. And Walton Verona will be fine. They need to get back to solid fundamental basketball and learn from a lesson from one of the masters. I suspect they will.

NCC did not shoot well in the championship game. Only shooting 27%, makes it hard to get into your press defense.

According to cybersports, WV had 23 turnovers in the All "A" Championship Game and 10 were in the 4th Qtr + OT.

I was more shocked by the All-A score than this one .

That's a lot but 13 is quite a few as well.

 

Again, both teams are very good. I just believe that NC's pressure would give them the leg up in a series that IMO they would win.

Effort was there but sometimes the statistics catch-up with you. They couldn't throw the ball into river standing on a bridge on that day, even Kiernan missed like her first 4 shots that are ones she makes in her sleep.

 

Didn't see last night but saw the All A game-New Cath's press that didn't get to WV in the first half of the All A, definitely did something in the 4th and Overtime. I didn't pay enough attention to notice the difference in the press but it definitely was working and WV didn't really counter with a different line-up, i.e., their best ball handler was sitting on the bench. In other words, Coach Dawn got "it" figured out late in the All A and I'm sure 8th region coaches would love to see the tape of last night and the 4th quarter plus of the All A.

I heard that was the case with both teams in the All A State finals. Lets face it if WV had to choose which game to win I'm sure they wouldnt change a thing. Same goes for NCC with the 2 games against BBHS. Your right NCC lost to BBHS & WV both in OT and then came back and took care of business on the 2nd game. Sometimes you dont get a second chance, Its High School sports you better bring your A game everytime out ! Congrats to all 3 Northern Kentucky teams for being in the final four and good luck the rest of the way.

I will go out on a limb and bet NCC will be at the All A next year and bring their best. They should have a dynamite team and I will predict in 2 years they will be conteners to go down state. Just saying..
