Newport Catholic 54 Walton Verona 25

Featured Replies

In the re-match of the All A finals up on the Hill the Breds gave Walton 32 minutes of hell tonight. The Breds press the entire game and the Bearcats had zero answer. The Breds forced some many turnovers I stopped counting at 15 in the 2nd quarter. The 2nd half was much the same as Walton started the 3rd quarter with 2 in a row and it continued from there. Walton easily had more turnovers than points tonight. With 2:47 left in the game the Breds pass & dribble out the clock. The Breds started of slow shooting wise and missed quite a few FT's(again), but then heated up. At one point Ronny Dawn yelled at his team to stop shooting 3's or the next one that did would be sitting on the bench. Still Walton is All A champ, but revenge was sweet.

Called this one, Walton nothing to play for, NCC looking for revenge, at NCC, NCC's tremendous pressure defense horrible combination for the WV girls....obviously.

I expected this. Ronnie Dawn has probably been salivating about this game since Sunday and he wanted to make a statement. Well, he made it. NewCath dominated from the beginning. Walton's point guard and other guards could not handle the press and actually looked like "deer in headlights". Since Walton has to cancel a game, this was definately the one they should have cancelled and not the Owen County game. They had nothing to gain from playing this game. Probably, a couple of days off after playing the All A would have benefited them. This is the first of four games this week. One on Friday and two on Saturday. Congrats to the Breds on a convincing win.

Really seems like NCC is gearing up at the right time. Look out Ninth Region opponents!

Walton won the one that counted. I am sure it was really hard for them to get up for this game. I am sure this loss will have them re focused on winning the 8th region tournament.

If you made me pick which team is better I'm taking NC without question. Both are talented but I don't think you'll see NC miss shots like they did against WV but I DO think WV will continue to turn the ball over.

WV beat NCC in the BIG game. WV has a strong record against a strong schedule. Would love to see how NCC would do against Clay County, Dunbar, Madison Central, and South Oldham. NCC is very good, but your assumption based on one game is probably not accurate. Not to take anything away from NCC, but this was a very anti-climatic game for WV against a team they defeated three days earlier in an extremely emotionally draining All A state championship game. Congrats to the Breds.

Walton won the game that mattered. I could only imagine how hard it would of been for Walton to go on the road and try to get up for a game that honestly means nothing to them. On the other hand ncc wanted revenge but really it's not revenge Walton has the trophy ncc has a regular season win. Not really shocked.

Did New Cath not press in the All A title game? Why not?

Anyone know the answer to my questions?

Aren't I basing it on two games?

WV had 20+ turnovers so NC applied some pressure.

All things considered I am not suprised that NCC won this game but I am suprised at the margin of victory. I was suprised this game wasn't cancelled due to both teams' game counts. Didn't NCC have to cancel a game too?
