I'm in the line of thinking bigtime player in bigtime games and how valuable They have been to their team. If Rice continues to fill it up and leads Holmes to Rupp then I would go with him.

 

Hatton can take over a game better than anyone.

 

I would give it to which ever kid leads their team to state. Hatton has probably played a much better schedule which may cost him a few points per game.

 

Agree with both...again, I'd be surprised if the POY doesn't come from the team that goes to Rupp.

I agree. I am not advocating for Ruthsatz to be POY. I was making a comment in response to the post about what player means the most to his team. I agree with your comment that POY is almost surely going to be from the team that travels to Rupp.

Now that I've seen them multiple times:

 

1. Hatton

2. Campbell

3. Burger

4. Rice

Rice gets my vote after watching him tonight.

I reiterate again...IMO: it will be either Hatton or Rice with Hatton leading right now.

I have always this thought process for picking a POY. It would be the person that you would pick if you were to have the first pick of a draft. I would base this on what they have actually demonstrated this year on the court not potential. Stats are such a tough evaluation tool and I have never been a big fan of the, "means the most to his team." theory. I trust the human eyeball judgement, for example, how they take over a game, defensive attention they recieve and consistancy. Now, I have not seen live action of all the players mentioned but I would like to hear from those that have seen them all play, whom would you pick first if you were to start you own 9th region team? I have seen Rice and Burger play and I would pick Rice. Rice has dominated a lot of games to put them out of reach early.

I've watched Rice against two solid teams - Dixie and CCH - and he's failed to live up to the hype. Hatton locked him up which exposed a lack of perimeter ball skills. Not a strong outside shooter. Nice defender. Can be explosive. Good player but not in my top 3 (and I don't watch stats).

As I said it's not about stats with me so foul trouble had no impact. He didn't finish at the rim well against CCH other than two dunks that weren't contested. He got locked up on the perimeter by Hatton (not fleet afoot) and didn't finish well against Dixie.

 

Hatton is the best offensive player in NKY. Add in his mental and physical toughness and it's no contest.

You were at the Dixie game...the charge that gave him the second foul was a pretty bogus call.

 

Despite getting in foul trouble, he still had 20 and Hatton picked up 2 quick fouls trying to defend him.

 

Now I'm in the same boat as a lot of you and think Hatton is POY but Rice isn't that far behind him. Kid has been held to single digits just once this year and that was 9 against CCH but his TEAM still got the W.

No way Burger and Campbell are both better than Rice. You obviously have seen those two more to form this opinion.

 

Campbell was too slow to defend Rice on the perimeter in the HC game and I can almost guarantee TC isn't used to having his shot blocked multiple times the way Rice did to him.

 

Burger was impressive in the NCC game that I saw him but no so much in the Holmes game. Wouldn't that be considered "not showing up" in a big game?

 

You ask a college coach and I can almost guarantee they'd take Rice over Burger...from stats, potential, and play to date. Burger defending Rice is a total mismatch at both ends. Why do you think he was held in check against Holmes???

 

Campbell is intriguing because of his size but against a physical player (Knox) down low he becomes average defensively. Campbell is good around the rim defensively but that's it. Offensively, he does have a nice shot from outside but Rice has also showed a very nice stroke from outside with consistency.

Rice/Campbell

 

No way Rice is the 4th best player in the region.
