IMO the legit candidates in no order:

Hatton, Rice, Campbell, Burger

IMO: it comes down to Hatton and Rice. They are the two best players in the region on the two best teams.

Winner will be from either Holmes, Dixie, or HC...whichever team goes to state.

Why? Because they have the three best players in the region and one of them will lead their team to Rupp.

If I had to pick...I'd say it comes down to Rice and Hatton.

One valid argument.

Has there been a player who changes games like Campbell?

Jake Burger IMO....He has led the Indians in Scoring in the big games and hit the game winner to win the All A State Championship. The kid is a gamer and is playing great.

Campbell is a consisten double/double night in and night out but Burger has shined in the big games.

Hatton has been pretty consistent.

Rice has had a nice 3-4 games in a row.

If player of the year means what player that means most to his team and helps them win then it is Jake Burger after tonight. They are 22-2. What else do you say and they won the all A state. Not only does he average 18 points a game and 7 rebounds a game but i believe he has 3 steals and 3 assist a game.

Rice has been pretty consistent all year putting up numbers very similar to Hatton...the difference in the two is Rice has had more double doubles while Hatton may have a 30 pt game or two more than Rice. I'll get the numbers together and post them.

Head to head, Rice is better (more talented) than both Burger and Campbell. Get Campbell out on the perimeter and he becomes very average. Too slow footed to defend a versatile big man like Rice or even Stansberry of Dixie. Didn't McQueary have a big game against him too?

The best two all around players are Hatton and Rice...you know I respect your opinion though Q.

Won the All A State but arguably the third best team in the region...not trying to take away their accomplishments but winning the All A and making noise against the big boys are two different animals.

Even before today I would have said Jake Berger....kid really has impressed me

Rice numbers:

Vs Beechwood: 35 pts, 10 rbs

Vs Ryle: 26 pts, 10 rbs

Vs Campbell Co: 27 pts, 9 rbs

Vs Cooper: 16 pts

Vs West Jessamine: 24 pts, 11 rbs

Vs Holy Cross: 19 pts, 9 rbs

Vs Covcath: 9 pts

Vs Louisville Doss: 22 pts, 11 rbs

Vs St Henry: 21 pts

Vs Blackburn, Australia: 20 pts

Vs Marion Co: 17 pts, 10 rbs

Vs Madison Southern: 16 pts, 7 rbs

Vs Estill Co: 20 pts, 13 rbs

Vs Somerset: 29 pts

Vs Newport: 21 pts, 10 rbs

Vs Brossart: 15 pts

Vs Lloyd: 24 pts

Vs Scott: 25 pts, 10 rbs

Missing a couple games there but those are pretty strong numbers and make a strong argument for POY if he can help lead his team to Rupp. Without the three games I'm missing, that is a 21 ppg average which is higher than Hatton. I'd also be willing to bet Rice is averaging ATLEAST 8 rpg.

I'm in the line of thinking bigtime player in bigtime games and how valuable They have been to their team. If Rice continues to fill it up and leads Holmes to Rupp then I would go with him.

Hatton can take over a game better than anyone.

I would give it to which ever kid leads their team to state. Hatton has probably played a much better schedule which may cost him a few points per game.

Burger definitely helped his stock a lot in the All A. But if we are talking about the player who means the most to his team and helps them win, IMO it is Ruthsatz. I don't see him as a POY contender this year but he arguably means more to his team and to his team winning than any other player in the region.

I can see where you are coming from but couldn't the same be said about Hatton, Rice, and Campbell as well?
