Not sure that he was. Burns had all 10 of his points in the first half and Justin Saunders had a 3 point shot from past half court at the buzzer in regulation? Brossart looked out of sync tonight. Never got into a good flow. Congrats to Collegiate.

You will get no argument from me that we weren't very good tonight. We showed in the 10th "A" that we were not the overpowering, dominating force that some think we are. You need to go no further than the first half vs Augusta, and the second half versus Paris to realize that on any given night we were vulnerable to getting beat.

 

Our defense is not the lockdown, hold you to 40 points a night, frustrate you thing that we have seen from Mustangs teams in the past, and our leading scorer is going through some tough times health wise, limiting his ability to play at 100% off of which we feed, and which opens up avenues of other offensive opportunities. No excuses, just stating a fact.

 

Tonight we were flat, appeared tentative, while Collegiate, much as they did to St. X last year or the year before, played a wide open game, knocked down 3s, got the ball to the rack, and played pretty effective defense, all of which combined to win the game for them.

 

We were down 9 points with three minutes and change, and then played brilliantly for a two minute stretch tying and taking the lead, before lasping back to turning the ball over and making mental mistakes.

 

Crucify us if you must. We are still a 15-5 ballclub with some quality wins on our docket, who have the potential to peak a few games down the road. Nothing we would have liked more than to have won by 20 tonight, moved on to beat the winner of the Danville/Desales game and then in all liklihood face Holy Cross in the semis and let the chip fall where they may. We'll go home, lick our wounds and get ready for Harrison County next Wednesday and then NCC on the hill next Saturday. Hopefully our performance then will meet with everyones expectations.

I hope Saunders gets healthy as he can be a game changer. Back to work for Coach Code and the Stangs is all you can do. I'm sure They are disappointed but They still have a nice ballclub with their length. Like Mustang said, if They can get that lockdown D back They will make a run in the Districts/Regionals.

Louisville Collegiate 57, Bishop Brossart 52 (OT): Andrew Steggeman's 18 points and seven assists sparked Collegiate, rated 15th in the 16-team field, to an upset of the Mustangs. Will McAnulty hit three 3-pointers and had 11 points for the winners. Brossart was led by Justin Saunders' 11 points.

Collegiate outscored Brossart 8-3 in the overtime, with Steggeman getting four points and two rebounds.

Brossart took only three-point shots in the overtime, hitting just one of six.

Drew Burns, who came off the bench to score 10 points for Brossart, tied the game with a basket with 10 seconds left in the regulation. Collegiate's Will McAnulty missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Again, its a shame for the kids' sake that whoever wrote this article, must have not gotten the memo and went to Richmond instead. FWIW--Brossart had the ball out of a timeout with 17 seconds to go and the game tied, inbounded to a big right above the key, and he inexplicably passed it to a guard well behind the mid-court line--Over & back turnover. BB stepped up their "D" and limited Collegiate to a forced 8 footer, which the Mustangs rebounded, pass to Saunders, who missed from mid-court. Trentman's 3 was the only BB score in OT, and they did miss several other 3's (perhaps relying too much on the long ball, or maybe limited to those attempts by LC's defense?), along with a couple inside attempts as I recall.

 

Either way a tough loss for Brossart, and by their reaction, obviously a huge win for Collegiate. Congrats to the Titans and best of luck to them the remainder of the tournament. As others have stated, BB will deal with their disappointment and move on to the remaining games on their schedule.

 

Sorry to be such a stickler for accuracy, but it bugs me when so called "journalists" obviously weren't even at the game, and/or didn't take the time to watch the available replay; before writing a story to "inform" the interested fans of the state??? Please tell me this guy or gal doesn't get paid to do this??

I didn't think Brossart looked as bad as Collegiate looked good. I really liked the looks of the Collegiate team. I don't believe Brossart's focus was very good. They seemed to pass it around the horn and shoot jump shots too often, when Collegiate really couldn't guard the big man on the low block. But all in all this was a pretty good game between two pretty solid teams.

Wasn't taking a shot at Brossart. I was wanting to know what happened in the game, from the score it looked like a great game. Sounds like a tough loss for the "Stangs.

Mustang is always there with a game report win or lose. BigGreenHorse, on thee other hand, only seems to report when the Mustangs win. In 3 of the last 4 wins by Brossart ( St.Pats, Paris and Pendleton) the threads were all started by BGH yet in their last 3 losses (Collegiate, Campbell and Holy Cross) you cant find any report from him. Can we say Bandwagon...Thanks for the report Mustang and keep up the Good work..

Brossarts big doesn't dominate against smaller opponents like you expect from a 6'9 240 guy.

Anyone who thinks Brossart is top 3 in the 10th is sadly mistaken.
