What has happened to South Laurel

Featured Replies

You must be a mad parent because your "little Johnny" isn't getting the playing time you want him to get. Coach Davis is a very good coach that came into a down program. In 10-11 when Steve Wright was coaching they went 12-17 and lost in the first round of districts. That team lost to a couple of the smallest schools in the state, Deming and Augusta. (not knocking Deming or Augusta).

Give him a little time and a healthy squad and he will win. The AD and Principal picked a very good candidate to take over the South Laurel program.

That Deming team was one of the best in school history. You are saying Davis was a good hire based on what. I heard the last two or three years he has applied for almost every head coaching position that has came open and nobody hired him. I also heard that South Laurel offered the job to two other candidates before Davis took it and neither of them had head coaching experience. He has only won 5 games. The administration should have went after a big name coach based of the tradition at South Laurel. They did not do that and look at what has happened. Just blame the administration. You can only hope that they will fix it when the season is over.

Jaws is a big name.. go ahead and apply.

I smell sour grapes.

You seem to be avoiding/knowledge of some factual information. Deming also did not make it out of the district either. Just because it was one of the best teams they have had, dosn't mean SL should have lost to them.

On the adm. trying to find a big name, the search began around 5-13 and a new coach was named on 8-2. Several coaches turned down the job and not that many applied. It really got embarassing.

SL is very lucky to have gotten Jeff Davis. SL will be fine when all thier players are healthy.

He seemed to overlook a 30 pt loss to Augusta in that same tournament.... South Laurel will be fine and Jaws will be disappointed and silent!

Wonder why the two other candidates did not take the job then, considering South Laurel's tradition....

Based on tradition? I don't think too many BIG NAME coaches were even interested in the opening. They had the position posted for three months and according to you, two other coaches with no head coaching experience turned them down. Sounds like you should be "counting your lucky stars" that they got Davis to take the job.

He will be fine.

Don't turn on Jeff Davis, he will be fine with time.

I agree with this :thumb:

The basketball program at South Laurel is a joke compared to what it has been for the past 20 years. I blame the Principal and Athletic Director for not going out and getting a good coach. And stop blaming the loses on injuries. Every team deals with adversity with players getting hurt. South Laurel has more talent than most and should not have a 5-15 record. You should have kept Steve Wright around or made it a top priority to get a good coach.

Mr Jaws, A lot could be posted about Coach wright and his problems at South Laurel. It would be counter intuitive for South Laurel, fans to post about Coach Wright dirty laundry and his situtions at South Laurel and in the London community. I don't care who you blame and if South laurel never wins another game this year their better off with Coach Davis. Coach Davis, don't baby players or their pay to play parents.:sssh: You know what I mean you should you're so close to the program and in the know.:thumb:

Please stop posting about South Laurel and Coach Davis, Jaws Coach Wright moved on and you need to get over it and become a South western fan.:D

Augusta beat Steve Wrights SL team by 20+ and Augusta is smaller than Williamsburg.

Jeff Davis is a great young coach and would be better with supportive parents not unrealistic, nonsupportive ones!

Kind of funny that Jaws is on here ranting and raving and absolutely no one seems to agree with him.

South laurel has plenty of talent and on this team. Coach wright coached at South for 19 or 20 years and in this day and time that is a long time in one program. I believe he would have stayed and I bet a lot of people do to.

I saw them play Saturday and I couldn't see that much talent out there.

Jaws seems to have gotten quiet since everyone got against him.

With time. South Laurel is not a program that needs rebuilding. They should be winning now. Like I said every team deals with injuries but good coaches make adjustments and keep winning. I blame the Principal and Athletic Director for not getting a more experienced veteran coach. But that can be fixed when the season is over.

Look at what his hire date was, he had no time beofre school started to do anything.

Anybody that isn't grateful to have Jeff as a coach needs to take a good, long look in the mirror. That guy can coach. Once the talent gets healthy, the wins will follow.

The guys coached some of the best talent the state's seen in recent years, via AAU, and those guys love him.
