What has happened to South Laurel

Featured Replies

Where's Roscoe these days?

Roscoe is an asst coach with Brad Sizemore at North Laurel. I think Jim knows that Roscoe was a key part of Steve Wrights success. All you have to do is look at how many region titles Wright's team had won before Roscoe......

Let's get back to the point. What is the administration prepared to do to fix this problem. They need to make a commitment to fix this by going out and getting a good coach. And Steve Wright never lost to Williasmburg. South Laurel should never lose to Williamsburg. No excuse for that.

You have a good coach now. Injuries make a HUGE difference. Lets visit this when all the players are healthy and have a few games under their belt.

Who is the coach?

Who is the coach?

Jeff Davis, was an assistant at Simon Keeton last several years. Also coached AAU.

Where were you when Steve Wright lost in the 1st round of the district to a 5 win Southwestern team with his top ten ranked South Laurel team??

Don't turn on Jeff Davis, he will be fine with time.

gold Coach Davis will be fine when South Laurel, gets healthy, They will be a different team Sanders is a big loss to South Laurel, under rated by most but a very skilled player and a important part of South Laurel. Matt salvey the number 2 scorer and a good rebounder 15 plus points a game. Austin Schaser, one South Laurel, top rebounders.

I thought the rest of us moved this to the point, the "facts"

With time. South Laurel is not a program that needs rebuilding. They should be winning now. Like I said every team deals with injuries but good coaches make adjustments and keep winning. I blame the Principal and Athletic Director for not getting a more experienced veteran coach. But that can be fixed when the season is over.

So what was Wright's excuse for the poor season in 2010-2011?

Agree. SL not having just one player out with injuries, but 3....hard for any team/coach to be top notch under these conditions. Some calling for a new coach because of this is just....unreal.....

Never lose to Williamsburg, get use to it, Williamsburg is going to have a decent team the next 3 years...The Jackets are starting 3 Fr. and have a 8th grader seeing playing time, good times ahead for the young Jackets....

Wasn't it just one year ago that SL was in the Bracken Co tourney? And didn't they lose to at least Bracken in that tourney? IF SL is as you say "not a program that needs rebuilding", then they had NO business being in that tourney, and at the other end of the state I may add. Seems like Coach Wright knew well in advance that the team just simply wasn't that good as in the past, or he would never have entered, and Bracken would not have invited them.

As hoops22 stated, you lose your 2 best players/scorers and your best rebounder, ANY team is going to suffer! Face the facts, SL isn't as deep as you claim, and you are just looking for excuses.

Take Gilchrist, Lamb and Davis out of the UK line-up for 10-15 games and see what happens.

You must be a mad parent because your "little Johnny" isn't getting the playing time you want him to get. Coach Davis is a very good coach that came into a down program. In 10-11 when Steve Wright was coaching they went 12-17 and lost in the first round of districts. That team lost to a couple of the smallest schools in the state, Deming and Augusta. (not knocking Deming or Augusta).

Give him a little time and a healthy squad and he will win. The AD and Principal picked a very good candidate to take over the South Laurel program.
