Cooper 42 Holmes 39

Recommended Posts

Clyde, Cooper up by 2 , Holmes came down with sbout 11 sec left Rice missed a jumper from about 15 ft. Holmes had a opportunity with 2 put backs and the last one hit the bottom of the brace of the backboard. They called it out of bounds to Cooper.Holmes then fouled Collins to go to the other end with 1.6 left

To be clear are you saying it hit the brace behind the backboard or did it hit the bottom of the backboard?

I appreciate your concern but I would be more worried about my own team in losing to Cooper, than in worrying about CovCath getting out of the 35th. I mean if you can lose to Cooper you can lose to Beechwood!

Alrighty then.....in case you were not keeping track, that was your second "dis" on Cooper. One more and you will be escorted out out of the building.

Quite right! On January 27 Holmes plays Beechwood. Of course if Holmes wins then CCH plays HC to get out of the 35th. No pressure. Maybe you and CCIR can work it out. Blame the refs if CCH loses...again!

I have not seen Beechwood play but I will tell you that Cooper will give you a much tougher game than the Beechies this year.

It was a weird call in the end but that is not what beat Holmes.

They shot poorly all the way around in the second half from the field and from the free throw stripe.

The Dogs missed Knox because they didn't have anyone to match the size and beef of Cooper.

This was a classic trap game for Holmes but not to take anything away from Cooper, they deserved to win the game.

You will get these head scratchers every now and again.

Imo this is the signature win that coach Sullivan needed at Cooper. It is the win that gives them real "cred". The only problem with this win is that it makes coach Sullivan's job that much harder. Not only will he have to work that much harder to keep his kids focused and down to earth but he will no longer be able to sneak up on teams outside of his district. Believe me the other coaches in his district were aware of how hard his teams play but now the others are as well. Great win for the program.

Cooper seems to have laid out a pretty good blueprint for Beechwood versus Holmes. Slow the game down and use your size. Make Holmes shoot from the perimeter and no second shots. Is that how Cooper played this one? Beechwood can put three 6'5" guys on the court if they want and try to go at Holmes that way. Taking care of the ball and limiting turnovers will be a must and the biggest challenge for Beechwood.

Beechwood is not Cooper.

Cooper doesn't look so much to slow the game down as they look to get in your face on defense. They give you 32 minutes of hard in your face man-to-man defense. They will push the ball when it is there and they will shoot the open 3 if it is there but more often than not they will work the perimeter and look for an opening in the defense and take the good shot. They also look to crash the boards and always have somebody ready to stop the run out from happening. You don't get a lot of wide open looks or fast break points on them. Coach Sullivan demands hustle, hustle and more hustle.

I would not say Cooper slowed the game down at all. They played man defense the entire game and even got up and pressed a little bit in the 4th quarter. Holmes tried to hold the ball for 2 minutes in the 3rd quarter and for about 3 minutes in the 4th when they still had the lead but Cooper's pressure wouldn't allow them to "stall the ball" For only having 39 points Holmes actually shot the ball well from the outside especially #5...as a team they hit 6 3's I believe. What Cooper was able to take away was anything in the paint and they contained penetration.

Cooper was able to get stops when they needed to and really gutted out a bigtime win for their program. They came back from down 11 early in the 3rd quarter with solid defense and limiting turnovers. Saying they slowed it down does the win an injustice and is not accurate. Don't let the score fool you. Congrats to Coach Sullivan and the Jaguars.

Big win for Cooper. Who else has Holmes lost to? Same deliberate style of play?

Not a shot at Cooper but Holmes seems to play to the level of their competition.

Their losses have come to Etown on a last second shot, Grayson Co by 8, Brossart by 3, and now Cooper by 3....but they own wins over Holy Cross and Covcath and beat Newport by 48.

Holmes is a very streaky team.

This loss doesn't surprise me though. Cooper plays tough defense and they have size on the inside to neutralize Holmes quickness and athleticism.

I'd also say that not having Knox for the second half played a role in the L. He is a big part of Holmes team and is needed in a game like that to match the physical play of Cooper.
