January 13, 201214 yr   The wheels are falling off the Slick Rick Express. Knowles and Denny Crum speaking out against him now.
January 13, 201214 yr ^ It just comes with losing. When BCG was at UK, we heard how hard the practices were and the tough pre-game workouts when they were losing to Gardner-Webb. Then they reeled off 12 out of 16 in conference and not another word was uttered about BCG or his practices again until the wheels began to fall off the next season. Not saying there is not validity to the BCG stories or the Pitino stories, but they all like to pile on when things are not going as smoothly.
January 13, 201214 yr So, not funny...but funny: Kyle Kuric will miss DePaul game beause of ankle injury suffered in practice
January 13, 201214 yr So let me get this straight, the article hurt recruiting more than the 31 point loss? Seriously?
January 13, 201214 yr He's probably right that it doesn't help. Not sure about the recruiting side, but it doesn't shine good light on the program. What most damages recruiting is a 31-point loss to a winless Big East team. Or a crop of point guards that perpetually under-perform. I do agree with Bugatti that this is a non-point if UL beats Notre Dame & Providence. I think the losses to Georgetown & UK are much more understandable. If Billy Clyde had produced to the extent that Cal has, no one would care one iota about hard practices, his drunken ways, etc.
January 13, 201214 yr From Twitter: @NotJerryTipton Denny Crum accuses Pitino of "overworking" his players. Pitino has yet to make his son face the media about this.
January 14, 201214 yr I think Calipari to UK hurt recruiting. I figured Pitino would do better than he has at U of L. And, that's not to say he's done bad, but my expectations were high, especially after his early success with the Garcia team. However, I don't feel like recruiting was ever Pitino's strong suit. He got a few high profile guys, but he didn't bring in loaded classes year after year. He did put together the great '96 team, but that team was topped off with some transfer luck, IMO. Mashburn turned out to be a much better collegiate player than his ranking coming in. Rodrick Rhodes ended up being a disappointment. Pitino's biggest strength was maximizing talent (Unforgettables), developing projects (Nazr Mohammed) and utilizing each players's strengths to benefit the team (Cameron Mills) But, it seems that he hasn't always been able to add the one or two high caliber guys to the roster to put his teams over the top. I think in most years he still gets the most out of his teams, but he doesn't have the Mashburn, or Mercer & Anderson to elevate them to elite level.
January 14, 201214 yr Dear Rick, You sir are hurting recruiting. Your tired Big East 2-3 zone is hurting recruiting. Last season you tell us you are creating a New Brand of basketball, Looks like the same brand for the past 10 years. Maybe sleeping with a bleach blonde tramp in a booth for 15 seconds is hurting recruiting. Maybe the fact that Cal is whipping your tail on and off the floor is hurting recruiting. Here is an Idea announce you are retiring today. Send Lil Ricky back to Florida and you head off back to New York City. Yes CL is a terrible beat writer. But some times the Truth hurts........................ Sincerely, Tom Jurich

Pitino has never been the recruiting ace he gets credit for. When he has had a strong staff he has been able to close, but when he had guys move on he has really struggled to replace them. I have heard some really bad stuff about the current staff behind the scenes in terms of doing due diligence on kids and just reaching for whatever they could land because the recruit looked good on paper. Remember they only found Dieng by recruiting Justin Coleman who is struggling to see the court at Marshall after failing to qualify. Chane is a solid 4 year guy, but nowhere close to what you want from a "5 star" recruit. Buckles and Swopshire were marginal. Siva looked great playing with Tony Wroten and Josh Smith. Attention to detail has been a serious issue since Masiello and Willard left...

January 14, 201214 yr Don't forget about how he messed up the Big 12 thing with his moronic comments. Let's not get crazy now. WVU got the spot because they promised to pay any amount necessary to play in 2012. Not going to happen, but the Big 12 bought it hook, line and sinker. Pitino was working his Big 12 contacts hard the entire time...
January 14, 201214 yr Supposedly Pitino and the writer got into a shouting match in the hallway after the presser.
