January 12, 201214 yr So, I'd be a step closer, BUT....today the HR lady was outside my office running all the W2's through the postage machine. I asked if I could get mine now instead of her mailing it, but she said that company policy was that they HAD to be mailed. I guess I'll get them tomorrow. Then, still waiting on my last job's W2's, and my statement from my 401k. Then I can file!

Did you take money out?
January 12, 201214 yr Author I'm trying to picture where the 401k info comes into play. Did you take money out? You can get a credit this year depending on how much you make and how much you put in.
January 12, 201214 yr You can get a credit this year depending on how much you make and how much you put in.Hadn't heard that. You know what the stipulations are?
January 12, 201214 yr Author ^ http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=107686,00.html I think I saw it on Yahoo the other day. Edited January 12, 201214 yr by HammerTime
January 12, 201214 yr I can see it. I mean honestly, how hard can an eight-year-old's taxes be? Good point
January 13, 201214 yr You can get a credit this year depending on how much you make and how much you put in. Didnt know that.
January 13, 201214 yr That credit has been around for a few years. You get a tax credit if you make voluntary contributions to a retirement plan if your income is below a certain level, roughly below 28k for single or 56k for joint filers.
January 13, 201214 yr ^Our firm has a standard fee of $75 per return just for the admin (filing, copies, scanning, paper), so that's incredibly inexpensive! For sure! I'd like to subcontract out a few at those rates.
January 13, 201214 yr I have been 100% commission for 10 yrs and my pay varies but overall pretty consistent so I hardly have anything held back during the year. With my deductions and exemptions It works out pretty good for me. Last couple years I owed a little bit but his year I get $500 back. My Financial guy just tells me to make sure I keep 25% out in Fed taxes typically with the amount of deductions I have.
January 13, 201214 yr No. But don't I still have to wait for it? Shouldn't have to....As far as contributions go, those should be on your W2s. As long as you didn't withdrawal money from the 401(k), you shouldn't need anything from it.

Cool, then. I will just be on the look out for my current employer's W2's and my previous employer's W2's, and I'm good to go. Thanks!
