January 13, 201214 yr Cool, then. I will just be on the look out for my current employer's W2's and my previous employer's W2's, and I'm good to go. Thanks!Did you roll over your 401k from your old employer to your new plan or to another retirement account? If so, you have a transaction you have to report and will need to wait on the 1099R from the old 401k.

My old employer didn't offer 401k, so this is a new account....actually, it's the same account I had when I was with SBUX, just now with this employer's contributions instead.
January 13, 201214 yr :thumb: Didn't want you to jump the gun and then have to amend. I learned my lesson well, teacher.
January 14, 201214 yr Got my W2 yesterday. My wife works for the state and hers never comes until the end of Jan/first of Feb. I'm pretty sure we have everything else though.
January 14, 201214 yr I'm a Dave Ramsey disciple. 3 years (Lord willing) until the Parkers have our house paid off....leg lamp & all. Will be nice at age 37 to accomplish that. As for taxes, I'll get them done as soon as we get both W2's. A friend of mine has a business & he's taken care of us for several years. I like having my money all year long, as opposed to getting it all back in a refund. I play a little game, trying to get as close to $0 as I can. I'm not angry if I get back or have to pay $500 or less. Last year, we got back $62. Probably as close as I'll ever get. Bingo, no credit cards for 13 years and pay cash for cars since '97, nice only having a house payment (and not much longer) and of course tuition for 3 three.
January 23, 201214 yr If anybody has a w2 from the military in 2011 and like to file your own taxes, I recommend using taxslayer.com. just finished mine and it was completely free to file and was easier than hrblocks website. It wasnt very expensive for those not in the military, so I would recommend taxslayer to anyone who files online. Just my 2 cents.
January 24, 201214 yr Author ^ I have used them in the past and it was always pretty cheap. I might check it out again this year.
January 30, 201214 yr Filed mine last night. Used Turbo Tax. My fed was accepted in about 30 mins and my state was accepted this afternoon.
January 31, 201214 yr Just filed mine tonight with TurboTax, as I do every year. Gee, I really love that Alternative Minimum Tax (ATM). :madman: What a crock. It was originally created in 1969 with the intent of forcing wealthy taxpayers to pay a certain minimum amount of taxes, but because it has never been indexed for inflation as are the regular tax brackets, it affects more and more "non-wealthy" people every year. For years it's been universally decried as needing a major overhaul, but apparently Congress refuses to do anything about it because they don't want to give up the additional (unfair) revenue it creates. Gosh, good to know I'm "wealthy" though. :irked:

February 1, 201214 yr Triple Crowner crying about AMT! I live in the Section 8 part of Triple Crown. It is absolutely silly if you think about it though. They started this tax to eliminate unfair tax benefit opportunities for high income taxpayers, however "high income" was defined in 1969. However, they've never adjusted this definition for inflation in the past 40+ years, so it now affects people that don't fit the criteria to be defined as wealthy. Yours truly would be a case in example. I'm not hurting by any means and not claiming otherwise, I just have a hard time believing the intent of this tax was for people like me. But gee, if by paying a few extra hundred dollars in AMT tax I get to wear the label "wealthy", I'm all for it! :irked:
