Refs called a fine game. Holmes affected CCH at the bucket early in the game, which cost them the game. Hayden may help CCH next time round. District 35 is a blast! No official at any level is going to tell you that you make THAT call with 1.6 sec to decide a game, CCH had their chances and one call doesn't lose you the game, BUT that was a terrible call to make to decide this one....should've played OT, but that's the way the ball bounces.

I thought the refs called a pretty good game overall but the last call seemed to be more of a loose ball foul. Both players had their hands on the ball, the Holmes player just tryed to shoot it from his waist and probably looked like a foul to the ref. It's a shame that the game ended that way instead of someone hitting a last second shot. From what I've seen so far this year both teams will have an awfully tough time with Holy Cross. I won't see Boone County until tonight but HC looks the best to me so far.

 

Boone beat HC by 7 earlier in the year... HC will have a 15-11 lead over Holmes when play resumes tomorrow night.

HC's lone loss on the year was that loss at Boone Co. as they improved to 14-1 with a win at Brossart last night.

 

Tomorrow night should be a good one, even though we only get to see 3 quarters tomorrow night. :-)

I need to see Dixie play Holmes, CCH, HC, NC, and Boone. I still contend this region is more open than any in recent years.

I agree with Statman's assessment that until someone locally beats Dixie, they should be #1, but like you mentioned I want to see how Dixie does against those other top teams that you mentioned. I do think that the top 6 teams in the 9th can each beat one another on any given night. Can't wait for the districts and regional.

The good news for both teams is they come out of this game saying "we can beat them next time if...." and they're both right.

We can split hairs on this forever. I certainly can appreciate that there are more elements to any game that decide a game. Just as Clyde mentioned, if the Colonels would've just made a couple of more layups. But ultimately at this point of the game with everything on the line and the Colonels giving steady concentration from a defensive stand point, I'd expect a bit more steady concentration from the officials too.

 

You're assuming the officials even knew the score at that point. I'm sure they were concentrating on what was important - the action on the floor - and didn't care about the score. As I always say to those who complain about the refs: if you think you can do a better job, pick up a whistle and have at it!

Got to give CCH credit for being competitive considering every game they play is 5 on 7.

If you are referring to the refs your quote shoots your credibility to ---- as there are 3 refs, so you if you don't even notice that I don't put much stock in anything you say.

Everyone always wants officials to be consistent, EXCEPT at the end of the game. Then you don't want them to make a call that would have been made in the 2nd quarter. Maybe we could just have them leave the floor with 30 sec. left and "Let the kids decide the outcome". A foul is a foul is a foul, regardless of when it occurs.

Just not enough going on there to be the deciding call. Watch a little basketball, talk to some officials...really man, i didn't invent the thought. When you're going to potentially decide a game with your call, you're not going to do that on a marginal foul (meaning that it may or may not be a foul at ANY point in the game)...it needs to be a no brainer. That is neither an excuse, a criticism of the officials, or a request for them to leave the floor in the last half minute... I was stating a widely held basketball sentiment. Find another post with more controversy, FOTR, there's really nothing to debate here.

Just tired of people always complaining about fouls at the end of the game costing them the game. Not saying YOU said that. Just a general statement. Oh, also, really man, I know I have seen more basketball games than most everyone out there, know more officials than most everyone out there, and have officiated more high basketbal games than anyone out there and am still a registered official working basketball games. So don't begin to tell me to know or learn more about when calls should be ignored or made. I said IF a foul is a foul it is a foul at the end of the game the same as it is in the second quarter. "When" the call is made has no bearing on the call, and if the call "decides" the game so be it. Ask any official worth their salt and they will agree with that satement.
