See, I've heard that "repertoire" part before, but it just never registered because it really doesn't make sense when you consider what the A&R person actually does.

On another note — For years I would see "DIY" used regularly, and had zero clue what it stood for. Thank God for the Internet so that I didn't have to ask somebody and look like a dummy.

 

Still don't know what the acronym for a record company's A&R person means. I know what they do — promote the artist and act as a liaison between the artist and record company — but have no clue what the R stands for. Representation?

I guess it was probably something I saw a lot more in the '90s, not only with the rise of Indie Rock, but also with the explosion of the "How To …" books on home repairs, etc. I wracked my brain for several years trying to figure out what those darned letters stood for. :ohbrother:

From another thread I just learned what POTUS stands for!

I became good at the acronym thing back when I worked with Holiday Inn. Their CRS is Holidex, and at the time, it was a Linux based system without a Windows based OS. all the commands and report parameters had were acronyms. But even before that, in the hotel industry as a whole, the lingo is awash in acronyms. I anxiously await the DOR each day from the DOF, so that I can see what our ADR, OCC, RevPAR, RevPOR and LOS were and I can then counsel our CCM, GSA's, AFOM and FOM, and advise our DO's, VPO, and COO. Then I go in and adjust things in our GDS, so that the IDS OTA's are in parity, and the CRS is in sync with our GDS and PMS.

It took me a while to figure out what FWIW meant.
