Did anyone else find it disturbing she was holding the 12 gauge reenacting the scene for the camera?

 

I was always taught never to point a gun at someone unless you intend to shoot them, even if you're sure it's unloaded.

Obama voted AGAINST legislation giving gun owners an affirmative defense when they use firearms to defend themselves and their families against home invaders and burglars. I hope he doesn't try this as one of his "under the radar" tactics of gun control nation wide..

I thought the Illinois law in question was about whether owners of illegally possessed firearms could still be fined if they used them in self-defense. People like cammando then make the logical jump that since gun owners could still be fined that it is illegal to defend yourself, ergo Obama would make it a crime to defend yourself if someone broke into your home.

What I read was that the a bill was passed that said local laws could not override self-defense. Rep Obama disagreed. That means he supported the rights of a gun owner to use force in a area where gun laws supported it.

She did just lose her husband to cancer on Christmas day. I am sure her mind isn't exactly in a great place.

Good. Nothing at all wrong with what the girl did. If you break into someones home with a knife, you run the risk of being shot. That's how it ought to be.

Re-read what I posted. I said it passed and that Rep Obama disagreed with it. However, the bill simply said that you cannot be charged with gun violations even if your town bans that gun IF you use it in self-defense.

 

So how do you take from that vote that he doesn't think any owner should be able to defend their home? His vote essentially says it should be up to each locality.

Mom is a sitting duck. Would you whack em with a Louisville Slugger.? Blast em with a blender? Throw a toaster at em? Curious, what would you do with an intruder? Honest question.

 

Well, in both instances where someone broke into my home, I was there. The first time, I heard them, and as I exited my bedroom they scrambled out my kitchen window, albeit already haven taken out a lot of my stuff. The second time, I slept right through it.

I wouldn't believe most people, but in this case I do.

After watching the video, I think that her demeanor is pretty downtrodden, actually. Several factors are likely at play, including her husband's death, PTSD from the events of the night in question here, and maybe even some post-partum depression. She's been through a lot

 

For the record, from the reports I've seen of the story, there's certainly nothing I can fault her for in her decision. It just wouldn't be a decision I would make, because I wouldn't have the gun there to use. I definitely would have called 911. But after that, I probably would have crept around the house and woke up the dog and taken him with me to the door to surprise the intruders.

 

For those wondering where the dog was, maybe he was like both of my dogs at the times of the intrusions in my home...sound asleep and snoring in the bed with me. :lol:

Lucky Dog was about 8 months old, and was sound asleep in bed with me.

Obama voted against SB2165, which would amend the Illinois criminal code thusly:

 

7 Sec. 24-10. Municipal ordinance regulating firearms;

8 affirmative defense to a violation. It is an affirmative

9 defense to a violation of a municipal ordinance that prohibits,

10 regulates, or restricts the private ownership of firearms if

11 the individual who is charged with the violation used the

12 firearm in an act of self-defense or defense of another as

13 defined in Sections 7-1 and 7-2 of this Code when on his or her

14 land or in his or her abode or fixed place of business.

 

In other words, it would be OK to use a firearm in self-defense or defense of another.

Truthfully, I can't conjure up even one instance.

 

So you wouldn't shoot someone who breaks in to your house and attacks you with a knife, gun, base ball bat, etc?
