So unfortunate when officials try to make the game about themselves instead of the players. I would venture to say that Tim O'Hara was embarrassed to be associated with his two sidekicks on this night. They were just awful. Call a foul with .4 ticks left in a tie game to hand the W to the Cru. Sad way to end the game. Cru played entire 4th Q in double bonus when the fouls showed 10-2. I think O'Hara may have called one of them. I am not one to usually complain about officiating, but these two (exclude O'Hara) were flat awful. One of the refs even used some profanity towards a Conner player. IMO, this is uncalled for under any circumstances. Zero professionalism.

Outside of the final foul and 1 illegal screen call....I thought the officials did a decent job overal. Conner fouled way to much in the 2nd half.

Shocked to hear you say that. Blatant over the back not called, mugging at half court not called. I could go on and on. Just hate to see ONE official take over the game with a happy whistle. That's what I saw. Game should of gone into OT. Pitiful.

Awfully critical of the officials, and since I wasn't there you may be justified in your criticism overall.

 

To the first bolded, what does time and score have to do with a foul call? If it was a foul, it's the officials job to call the foul.

 

To the second bolded, what does the foul count have to do with anything? It's not the officials job to keep the foul count even. Officials should call what they see, and move on to the next play.

 

Finally, who were the other two officials?

I've seen enough Hoops to know and that includes games where I could care less who wins. It's a tough job and I don't want any part but once you choose that job and take the paycheck you are expected to perform. If you can't do it well then go find another gig. I just think the overall quality is lacking in our Region.

Agreed, congrats to St Henry on the victory. The focus of the thread should be on the game and not officials. Good point.

I am a big supporter of HS basketball and have been around the game my entire life. I have also done a small amount of refereeing and i will tell you that it is a lot easier to ref good teams than it is bad teams. My opinion on refs is that i don't like many of them, but in their defense i will tell you that the way the game is being played it makes it that much harder to call a good game. When you have bad players lowering their heads and driving to the basket and are out of control it causes more whistles ( more fouls and more walks). This causes their to be no flow and everyone to complain about what is being called and not being called. Bad Basketball makes for a bad officiated game.

I was at the game to support Connor (for the record) the first bold point from my vantage point which was on that end of the court from right behind the St. Henry bench it was clearly a foul. The Connor player got no part of the ball at all attempting to block the shot and got all forearm. IMO it had to be called as the defense clearly gained an advantage. Unfortunate, way to end the game and St. Henry actually made a FT which they had been missing all night.

 

Second bold point, did you hear this? the only time I recall refs addressing the players was once during a small chippy incident in the second half under the St. Henry goal and right at the end when #35 for Connor clearly tried to intimidate the FT shooter after the TO preceeding the first made shot. Not sure what he said as he bumped the shooter but the ref under the basket did say something to him and it didn't look like profanity just a talking to about sportsmanship I presume. IMO not a class act on #35 for Connor I know frustration probably took over for this young man. Do I think the refs missed a few calls absolutely! Do I think Connor was much more aggressive on D than St. Henry, yes! More aggressive D leads to more fouls. Furthemore, the game was sloppy on both ends lots of turnovers and missed layups/put backs.

Neither team looked particuarly good. But, its always better to win ugly than lose ugly.

Hemmerich had a nice game for Conner. Good luck to Conner the rest of the way.

Couldn't disagree anymore with this post. It was blatantly obvious that one official was manipulating this basketball game. Everyone I talked to knew a foul would be called to end this game before it happened. These are two of the worst officials I have seen in the 9th.
