Covington Catholic 73 Highlands 49

You take Ruthsats off the court and the Birds win that game handedly. He hit some very nice shots but also set up just about every trey Frederick shot. He is the catalyst of that team plain and simple. Frederick was quiet in the first half but CCH started setting double screens to get him open and he drilled em. Tobler made just about all of his FTs so nice job there.

I thought Highlands came out strong but couldn't overcome the early 3rd qtr turnovers.

Borderline ridiculous statement. Take the best player off any team and see what you have left.

What was the score of the JV game?

JV final 60 - 42

Borderline ridiculous statement. Take the best player off any team and see what you have left.

I'll agree with that !

I dont think so, I think its a compliment to the kid. He is that good. He was more than 20 pts tonight, he probably accounted in some way for over 40 easily. I dont think Highlands or many other teams in NKY have a player that means that much to their team.

Frederick struggles to create his own shot period, but he is very very good when he can spot up off of screens. Tobler is a nice player with nice size who shoots from the line well. Outside of that you have some nice players but not sure I would say many threats to score.

I am going to have to check the Ruthsats kid out....He sounds like a good one..

He is very good, great handle and nice body control to go along with one of the highest basketball IQ's I have seen. He knows when to shoot floaters, when to rush a shot to get it past a big kid and when to pull it out and no look ya for an assist. I think he is a little cocky at times but I can get past that due to his great skills. I am curious to see how he plays against a taller defender though who can make him get rid of the ball.

It hasn't been an issue so far. His handle gets him open for looks.

Are the Colonels the best team in NKY right now?

Don't know. Too early to tell. I can't say they're better than Dixie, NCC , or Holy Cross but I can say they can beat them all.

One of the worst foul calls of the night. LOL #12 got called and he told me after the game he didnt even touch him but he was amazed the kid made the basket. That was a Top 10 play for sure.

James Pouncy and Bobby ? had nice games tonight in stripes. The gray haired guy struggled at times and called a Technical on Flynn that was weak. Grow some thick skin and walk away, the coach was clearly just letting out some frustration because of his NO CALL when Towles got bodied shooting a layup.

Congrats to the Colonels on the 'W'. Totally disagree with most of what Qryche11 had to say about the game. Even if Nick Ruthsatz was not on the court, the Birds lose this game IMO. This Cov Cath team did not get intimidated by the physicality of the game, and in fact gave some of it back. I wish we rebounded a little better and did not miss so many easy shots, but nice job overall.

BTW - what happened to the Highland students supporting their team? Seems a couple years ago when they came to Park Hills they brought a good crowd with them.

Borderline ridiculous statement. Take the best player off any team and see what you have left.

I was thinking the exact same thing. This is not the first time I've read posters surmising what the Colonels would be like without Ruthsats. Face it people, you're not imagining anything. He's a real live breathing player for the CovCath Colonels. No doubt, they lucked into a sweet Father/Son deal, but get used to it, he'll be around for awhile. He's not the first transfer we've ever seen in high school B-Ball and he won't be the last. Aside from that, he's just a sophomore that no one had ever heard of before. Nothing about his story resembles an OJ Mayo type transferring late into his high school career after establishing himself. He's established himself as a true young Colonel with a promising future and will undoubtedly remain a Colonel until he graduates. It is what it is and more power to the Colonels for acquiring his services and amazing talents.

They lost by 24 points! Just how many points did CovCath need to scpre to beat HHS by to make you think CovCath is much better team than HHS?

Do you think, that some of those TO's were caused by the CovCath defensive pressure on HHS?

You are the stat guy TOG, how many crucial turnovers did we have at pivotal points in the game. How many traveling calls, or passes we just threw to the Colonels? You were there. We are down 5 to start the 2nd half and we are getting the ball and all of the sudden we are down by 12.

No I didnt think the defensive pressure was what caused the majority of the Bluebird turnovers. JMO

As far as my taking your best player off the court comment, I think you are mistakenly thinking I am eating sour grapes or something. He is a live breathing player who helped you whip our butts tonight, kudos to him and the rest of the team. However, my point was more like....look how important of a player he is to them that if you took him off the court it would be extremely hurtful to your team.

The Birds had their opportunities to cut into the lead and didnt and the Colonels answered drilling big shots. They definitely deserved to win the game.

I just looked at your statement as a typical HHS fan trying to come up with a scenario where your team was better than CovCath, so you had to take our best player off our team and, bam there you go, you're better than us. He's not going anywhere and we were 24 points better. No need for hypotheticals.
