The whole Westbrook dynamic still bothers me. He is talented, sure. But I am not a fan of score first, high volume shooting PGs. He wants to be the man on the team where it needs to be Durant. There are few rules that apply in the NBA when it comes to finding the consistent element of winning a title (eg. dominating big man, slashing wingman, etc.), but someone name me a score first, high volume shooting PG that has delivered a team a title? Iverson made it to the finals once, and they had no shot.

I think Isiah Thomas fits the mold of a score first, high volume shooting point guard. He was an exceptional passer but he seemed to take the most shots for the Pistons and was the team's leading scorer in ppg average wasn't he?

I didn't really say it was special but to score 15 in your first game with no practice is a pretty nice feat. He's a streak shooter but you can't tell me this wasn't a good addition for Knicks.

Zeke was a PG first and foremost, he was the team's leading scorer by default since he was the best player and on the court the most. And that was nearly 25 years ago. His advanced stats relative to the minutes he played would have him as the 3rd or 4th scorer on those teams I would say. Westbrook wants to be the scoring threat of OKC.

 

I just looked and the two season Detroit won the title with Thomas at the helm, he attempted 15.3 and 16.3 shots per game. Westbrook is near 19 with a scoring threat Thomas never had the luxury of having. That is a big difference.

I don't disagree with your assessment. It is an intriguing dynamic in OKC. I think they'll be fine as they are learning to make Westbrook's approach to the game work for them better now than last year. They should win the West but I don't think anybody has anything for the Heat. It looks like they have arrived.

Too many jumpshots, and Durant gets pushed around in the playoffs. They have zero post presence on offense, none at all. Westbrook is probably their best option on the block for crying out loud. I'll gladly take the field.

Nope. I hope so because I love Rose, but I am not seeing it unless something changes. I would say Rose's is a lot more forced out of necessity than Westbrook's scoring.

Some team will get physical with Durant and they will lose because they will shoot too many jumpers IMO. Westbrook is ripe to go off at anytime. Arvydas Sabonis' rotting corspe could guard Perkins or Ibaka in the post. A crazy team will make it in the West IMO, if the Lakers get even a trained animal to run the point I wouldn't put it past them. Head to head do you think Kobe is losing to Durant? I don't.

 

If Memphis gets in and Z-Bo is back and healthy I'd love their chances with the addition of Speights. The Mavs have looked alot better lately. Of course Lob City is going to make noise, CP3 always plays well in the playoffs. Portland has played OKC tough and will continue to get better. I take the field and don't sweat it.

You are over analyzing. I'm talking about the Bulls winning with Bill Cartwright, Luc Longley, Bill Pennington as centers. If they can win titles with those three centers then I think OKC can at least win the West with Ibaka, Perkins and Mohammed. Memphis couldn't beat OKC last year and OKC is better this year. Has Memphis improved any?
