So nearly exactly a year removed for the trade everyone agrees this was the right thing to do right?

^ Still sucks only reason is numbers aren't worse is because they play in the Grand Canyon.

Only thing you could complain about is giving away the wrong catcher maybe but I'm not even sure the Padres wanted Meso.

But where did it get the Reds? Still a first round exit from the playoffs.

They got an Ace for a guy that was blocked by an MVP, a guy that sucks and 2 guys that have some potential.

If we are using wins to determine the winner the Padres won 76 games last year.

Honest Question. How did one player help this team last year. only got 14 wins. another hack could have gotten you at least 7 of those.

Yes, the deal was good in 2012 and it will be good over the next few years.

Here's what to understand. The Reds had a +18 swing in Wins from 2011 to 2012. They went from 3rd place in the division, to winning the division running away. Had the 2nd best record in all of baseball. They gave up 2 guys (Volquez and Alonso) who wouldn't have contributed more than a bench bat and an extra arm, and two prospects, one of whom was an unknown and the other whom was blocked.

Bottom line, the Reds don't make the postseason in 2012 without acquiring Mat Latos. The fact that he's only 24 and will be on the hill for them for at least the next 3 years only solidifies that this was a GREAT deal for the Reds.

Okay so if he lost 7 more games, the Reds would have won the division by two games. Then factor in the fact that he had a few no decisions in there which probably resulted in team wins. With just another hack, the Reds could have lost the division this year.

The division was horrible, they still was put out in the first round.

Best thing about Latos - he brought a very hot wife to town, who is a lot of fun to follow......on Twitter! :D

I also liked hearing him at Redsfest talk about signing a long extension with the Reds. Said he thought 10 years to match Votto's would be nice

Didn't Grandal also get popped 50 games in 2013 for PEDs? Have to assume he would have been popped whether a Red or a Padre.

Yep, it will be interesting to see his performance next year.

He sure choked with bases loaded at the end.
