What doesnt make since to me is how Gray Middle School wins the 8th grasde championship like every year and Ryle is still not a dominating ball club. They have two 8th graders right now that are both 6"2 a peace. They have tremendous talent all the time but where does it all go to.

 

The problem at Gray & Ryle is coaching. Some of the better players at Ryle have been run off by Niemi, and many do not respond to him well. There is plenty of talent walking the halls - the problem is it isn't on the court or the sidelines, for the most part.

 

As far as Gray's players not producing in HS, it's because there's about a 90% chance that those 6'2'' players you mentioned are dominating down low in 7th & 8th grade. When they're 6'2'' (still) and a junior in HS, they better be able to handle the ball & shoot from the outside. Chances are that they cannot - that's not a bash just on Gray / Ryle, but on Grade School Basketball as a whole. Often times coaches are so short-sighted that they have their "big kids" simply post up and be a man among boys. What some coaches are failing to realize is that they're not doing any favors for the young basketball players, but not developing their talent.

Why is Ryan Luster not playing basketball at Ryle?

Beechwood not being given the credit they deserve. They have a very strong team this year and are going to surprise many teams that might be overlooking them. I would not be surprised if they make a run at the Class A Title in NKY.

He's eligible. He's been at Ryle for at least a year now.

My opinion is that middle school/frosh team results are meaningless when it comes to predicting the future of a high school team.

 

Is the middle school team competing against all middle schools? No.

 

Does varsity basketball only have one grade playing? No. Its the best of the best at each school.

 

The bigger question at Ryle is where is the talent? 1400 kids should be able to produce more talent than Ryle has put on the floor.
