I think it goes back in time even before the 60s for Highlands.

 

I've always heard the term was used to describe any situation in which one was thought to be "high society" and out of touch with the common folk and primarily became a popular term after Dickens Tale of Two Cities in which the term "Then let them eat cake" was attributed to M. Antionette (high society person) when informed that the poor people had no bread. Hence high society rich people were known as "cake eaters" and out of touch with the reality of common life.

I have heard the term used so much by Kenton County schools, talking of Beechwood, I was wondering who was the original "cake eaters'??

I had heard that St. Thomas, when it was a high school, was refered to as the original "Cake Eaters." This then switched to Highlands when St. Thomas closed the high school. Does this sound remotely familiar to anyone.

St. Thomas shut down in the 70s and Highlands was Cake Eaters long before that. Most likely since both were in Fort Thomas they both were called the name.

Growing up in Ludlow in the 60's and 70's there was only one team that inspired the words "Kill the Cakes" and that would be Beechwood.

I was always told that it was Highlands and in college my roomate was from Highlands and he called himself a cake eater.

So, I guess it's obvious that Highlands and Beechwood are both "Cake Eaters", but the questions is who are the original "Cake Eaters" and who has been the longest??

I can attest to the fact that Highlands was referred to as the "Cake eaters" as far back as the 40's. I can remember all of us shouting that to Tom Rohrer as he passed us on the way to the end zone. It was an inner city thing as we thought everyone in Ft. Thomas was rich. And compared to most of us, they were. I think the term goes back to Marie Antionette who, when told the populus had no bread, said "let them eat cake".

I don't know the origin as in who first applied the term to Highlands, but my brother used the term in 1948 when he took me to a game.

Never heard Beechwood called cake eaters before and never heard Campbell Co called plowpushers.

 

As long as I have known the only cake eaters are the Highlands Bluebirds. I have rarely if at all called them Cake eaters but those are the only ones i know as cake eaters.
