November 29, 201114 yr It's a packed plane, someone has to take the last remaining seat. Let's do both scenarios, before and after. He's seating himself, he squeezes in as best he can and I deal with the ooze. I'm seating myself, I squeeze in, after politely asking him to scootch over to make room. It ain't nothin' but a thang....It's REALLY no big deal.
November 29, 201114 yr Man, you libertarians are a downright humorless group. If nothing else, we found an issue that the Uber-Conservatives and Tree-Huggers agree on. In all seriousness, what rights do you feel you have when you purchase a seat on an airline? Are you not purchasing a given space?
November 29, 201114 yr Author ^ I'd rather sit next to someone spilling over into my seat that to sit next to an annoying person that can't shut up or some fool that keeps kicking the seat behind me. Disagree. I can get the person to stop kicking or to stop yakking to me. I can't make the person thinner.
November 29, 201114 yr "They" sell seats. "They" bring you soda and crappy peanuts. "They" don't have control over the other guy's donut intake. They sell space. Why should I pay the same price as you if I only get a quarter of the space? Why should the fat guy pay the price as me when he gets the same amount of space as the two people seated behind me combined? It's a poor customer service and business plan.

In all seriousness, what rights do you feel you have when you purchase a seat on an airline? Are you not purchasing a given space? Not the way you guys do. I have purchased passage to my destination. That's it. Really, a plane is about purchasing a trip...passage. I don't "own" the space. It's merely the means by which I am transported.
November 29, 201114 yr I'd rather sit next to someone spilling over into my seat than to sit next to an annoying person that can't shut up or some fool that keeps kicking the seat behind me....or a liberal.
November 29, 201114 yr Look at that picture, physics isn't allowing three people in the area where that guy is seated. That picutre, though, shows the guy being inconvenienced, not any skinny people.
November 29, 201114 yr Author Ok, Ok already, I will quit flying! A man with a strong sense of humor.
November 29, 201114 yr Ok, Ok already, I will quit flying! Let me guess....you are a tall, fat, yakkity, stinky diapered, cranky baby.

It's merely the means by which I am transported. So you'd be more than willing to pay the same price as everyone else, and while we all have seats, you have to stand? I mean, we're purchasing passage (a trip), not space.
November 29, 201114 yr That picutre, though, shows the guy being inconvenienced, not any skinny people.I'm not seeing how that guy wouldn't be inconvenienced. The picture also shows an empty seat beside him because a person is standing so the obese man can fit. I'd call that an inconvenience.
