What's the difference in the amount of the ticket for the "space"? People on airplanes pay different ticket prices. Should the guy who pays $800 for his trip have more rights than the person who pays $250? What if the guy that paid $800 is the fat one?

 

Whoever pays more has nothing to do with what I was saying. The man who had to stand paid 800 dollars. I have no idea what they other man paid. When you pay hundreds of dollars for one plane ticket you are paying for one seat. Berkowitz was left standing after he paid 800 bucks. No one has more rights than the other but the airline basically said the 400 pound man does. He got two seats for the price of one. He was very apologetic as well, according to the article.

How about this as an option. Southwest uses 737's I believe. These have 3 seats down each side. Why not take 3-4 rows of those seats and make them 2 seat rows with wider seats. They could charge 1 1/2 X as much for those seats as a normal seat. Anyone could buy them and larger people would be required to purchase them. You could then have a seat at the gate and if someone was of questionable size the airline could have them sit in the seat and if they didn't fit they get bumped to the larger seat and charged the extra cost. The airline would make exactly the same money on each flight, it would just have less people on it.

This sounds good in principle but it is not the revenue wash that it seems on the surface. You're eliminating 20% of the passengers on a plane. This would force them to put another plane in the air to service their current customers, that they may not be able to fill. Hence they lose money.

 

Airlines are barely getting by as it is. American filed bankruptcy today.

 

In the grand scheme of things the obesity thing does not happen all that often. They just make a huge deal out of it and the media gets involved and then come the arguments. Mrs C and I fly a lot. She flies 45 weeks a year. It's simple, as I said before.

And when you pay for a movie ticket, you're paying for one seat. If you pay for a ticket to a sporting event, one seat. It's no different if you pay $5.00 for a matinee ticket, $120 for a sporting event ticket or $800 for an airline seat. Right? That's the logic being used here.

I completely agree. Would you expect someone to pay for that extra ticket if they took up more space in the movie theater? Sporting event?

That's the question I'm asking those who are in an uproar about airline seats.

In the interest of full disclosure:

 

I do not frequent movie theaters because the behavior of people in movie theaters really annoys me.

I rarely, if ever, go to college or professional sports because I hate the seating discomfort. I'm perpetually annoyed by people who can't sit in their seats and keep making me get up so they can get to the aisle.

I hate sitting in the stands when I go to Trinity games. I highly prefer standing by the fence than having to squeeze in with a bunch of people and then they won't stay in their seats.

That's the question I'm asking those who are in an uproar about airline seats.

So if the customer demanded first class seats and service at a coach price would they be right? And no, the customer is always right is a fairy tale. The customer is only always right when it makes good business sense. Losing money hand over fist and going bankrupt isn't good for business.

Ironically, there have been situations where a large family has been given an additional room for free. :lol: I'm in the business of guest satisfaction. And at times, you give away what you could technically charge for.
